Congrats PT for getting it in the air - sorry for the bad weather but them's the breaks I guess. Especially coming into the Fall & Winter seasons, there's gonna be a week at a time when you just can't fly. But everyone, don't cut your time short - make sure you get ample play time.

Oh, I got plenty of airtime! It was the only airplane I flew Sunday. It's plenty of fun, even with high winds and gray clouds! Truly a great design. The first thing out my mouth should have been to say thanks to you Mike. You provided a day of fun at our field and heightened the respect for 1/2a.

I had some time today to take a quick vid of my Grace prototype on high throws! Like PT I had some wind and a little grey sky...

Thanks to RCU's MinnFlyer for the great camera work!

I was smilling thinking about your interesting description of rich needle flying.
I dare say it was the first time I ever Harrier'd without throttle.
When the needle is right she skoots along wonderfully. And for a long time

I would be interested in that too. It looks like quite a few want in so how about also making the plans available and we can build our own if we get impatient? Maybe that way I can actually get some air time too! I would go for the full house design myself.

YO, Schu! GRACE should be hitting your doorstep tomorrow if you haven't received it yet. It's coming in by Fedex Ground. I've got the tracking numbers around here somewhere if we need them.

Mooney, I'll add you to the list. In the meantime send me a PM and I'll send you the plans. Ptulmer has them on his site too for download.

You can build it with ailerons but it would be a departure from the plans. Never been tested in that config. I would recommend using no dihedral if you try it.

GRACE is now in my possession! It really is a nice looking plane. Vic even did a great job covering it. The video camera is charging and I'm off-shifting Thursday, so it may happen that day. If not, then Sunday. Depends on Flyswatter and the weather. I couldn't stand not adding a personal touch...

What is the purpose of the tube next to the cylinder?

Dear SomeGeek,

Knowing some of the people involved in the birthing of Grace, I would speculate that its a small horn - or trumpet - that is intended to be gently removed after your first successful flight with Grace. Then its placed between your upper and lower lips. After taking a deep breath one must exhale vigorously, much in the style of Dizzy Gilespie with dramatically out-pooched cheeks, to produce the first four bars of "Hail to the Chief". In other words, one must toot one's own horn. Just picture yourself as a modern-day Tarzan who has just vanquished a mighty foe and, having placed your foot on the now-still throat of your challenger, raise your voice to pronounce VICTORY to the entire jungle.

Or it provides air pressure to the tank.

The cliff notes version.

Crazy ol man!

I included this pic to give you an idea of how it works. Same ol clunk tank you are used to just using some pressure from the exhaust and forward movement to give consistant fuel delivery.

Nice - I'll have to add trumpets to my .049 aircraft.

Thanks,

Funny thing about GRACE having one of those is that dF is the one that proved they don't work! Vic, you put it on there, didn't you? SG, in order to get a significant enough amount of pressure to work, the vent has to be pretty close the the exhaust slit.

Yep.
I caught a bit of flack from others in here about that dealio too.
Here is my theory, I have never beat BobHH at the reedie race and he uses one on his bad stuff.
Also GRACE runs perfectly when properly needled. The facts back up the theroy in this case.

Roll on!

The trumpet is also the overflow when filling the tank. That way you are ABSOLUTELY sure you have it topped off to the fullest. The trouble with most planes is that you barely get it up in the air, do a couple stunts, and then, poof, out of fuel. This way you can pass the transmitter around, order out for a pizza, do your taxes, read War and Peace, twice, and heck it even gives you time to really consider just how well you charged your transmitter.

Well guys
It came my way on Friday pm and I got her out on Sunday - Long story short
I will need to rebuild!

NOT
Everything went fine except I could not get her started at first - turns out the glow plug was bad - PT - how many times did you fly that puppy? I did not have any Cox glow plugs and had to steal a glow plug and top from my Norvel - see that's why I love my Norvels - they always start. Anyway - once I put on the glow plug all was well and got her up in the air. Lots of fun, but I think it was a little tail heavy - make sure the battery stays under the tank! Turned real well and had lots of fun. I got a few pictures of Grace and also the land owner got some pictures to put on our club web site. I will forward when the pic's get on there. I will try to post some pictures here as well. I will try to get her out this week to the next on the list.
One note - I think it would be a good idea to state where you are from as well as signing your name so we all know where is has been.
Thanks again
Dale

Hey congrats Schu! How was the weather there this week? I was worried about you getting pinned down with wind, cold, and snow!

I might have an extra plug sitting around I can mail off. Does anyone else have one they can spare for the project?

BTW I havent had a lot of time to site maintenance and crowriverrc.com is down. It will be up tonight or tomorrow. Sorry for the inconvenience....

I thought everyone was signing the plane and box.
Did this change?
Raymond has a plug he can spout out of his trumpet.

Schu, after it was shipped, I couldn't remember if I'd checked the tank! I was waiting on homeland security to knock on my door... The plug is news. I had spares and should have dropped a couple in there. We didn't get to fly it as much as I'd have liked to. It was a blast to fly rudder/elevator for the first time.

Everyone was signing it - I mean that the location ( ie Virginia ) should be put on there as well. I will find a glow plug and install it even if it is a Norvel plug and adapter or a used but good Cox from one of my old engines. I don't fly the .049's much any more so have not kept up w/ the parts much. Fly mosly Norvel now or my .020's and .010's.

Vicman,
It's going to happen - just did not want it to be me.
Anyway that was the point - give everyone a little jolt - all in good fun - life is to short to not have fun and eat bad food.
