Looking good - decals always put the final touch on. The canopy worked out well too. The flame/maple leafs will be on the cowl.

Merry Chrismas everyone - have a happy and safe holiday!

Thanks Al - I like it too. I can't wait to finsh the last few things. I am getting in lots of simulator time and knocking off some of the winter rust. I keep getting distracted and flying 3D which is not helping my roller training any... 5 hrs int he sim so far today and I bet 3 hrs was TR'ing and trying to learn rolling harriers LOL - NOT required for IMAC.

I have a caller, plane tickets booked, hotel booked, sponsorship for shipping crate and shipping to the Canadian nats in July. If I can make time and stay focused the Panzl should be flying in Intermediate there... if I slack off then Sportsman Either way I'll be there.

Hope you guys are enjoying/have enjoyed a good break.

No action for a while I know. I was too cold here to paint. Wel today it is "wam enough" 0c. I am in the garage with a heat gun and paint is flying! The cowl should be done by tonight.

The Pilot also arrived and is FREAKING AWESOME. It's too big for the cockpit so unfortunately some trimming will be needed - but DAMN it looks nice.

I am determined to test fire the Panzl all finished up tomorrow.

Here we go!

Paul did an amazing job on the pilot. I had to cut him shorter and every cut hurt... but I had to bring it down 1/2" to fit. I have nicknamed him "little Al" in honor of the endless stream of questions Al answered for me.

The cowl got 6 coats of white (light coats 45 mins between each sitting over a heat vent.) Then 2 coats of clear. I did not do any sanding. I decided to lay this as a base - on the weekend once it has a chance to harden I will wet sand it to fix the seams and take off the orange peel. Then it will get some white airbrushed in the trouble areas I couldn't get with the spray can and a few more coats of clear. I don't expect perfection - I was not able to get the covering on the cowl perfect after all ... but it needs some more work. I also need to cut out some cooling vents in the bottom of the cowl.

Took some pics next tot he Cap I just finished rebuilding too. The Cap is a big 33%... the same length but much less "chunky" and less wingspan and wing area. The Panzl is LIGHTER as it sits. By quite a bit based on just picking them up. It's gonna fly so nice - I can't wait!

LOL - you say that now - just wait until he has to ride through his first spin hopefully he's not a voodo cursed pilot or you'll be hurling ... LOL

Hey, more good news.

I weighed the airplane today... Yea baby, it's 26 lbs even. And thats with the big fat 5" wheels... so -8 oz for the Kavan's and +4 oz for the fancy CF wheel pants and I am at 25lbs 12oz!!!! Holy cow - this think is gonna be an AWESOME HOT ROD FROM HELL at that weight. 2.5lbs lighter than my Cap with 4.5" more wing.... WOW.

I am a happy camper.

Well - the icy grip of winter has a firm grip on my psyche but I can't let that stop me. I was/am desperate to see what the Panzl will look like in the air. Since I am flying far more than I care to admit in Aerofly Pro Deluxe practicing for IMAC this season... I made a 40% Extra 330S in my scheme Looks nice to me! Maybe JeeUm will use my scheme on his new 330S ... somehow I think not! I will do a bit more editing on the plane to add the graphics too. The red on the wing tips works in the sim - so hopefully also in real life.

Here is the 07 Sportsman sequence in my "PANZL" scheme. Give me a break on the flying, please.
I see 12 points of deductions... I've only been flying 18 months now... so cut me some slack. I fly better in real life (honest - I find orientation/tracking in the sim a b*tch.)

Warning - 56MB ... I got it as small as I could while still being able to see: http://www.capitalcityflyers.com/video/Panzl%201.wmv
Best bet is to download it rather than try and stream it.

I'll post up some low and slow stuff soon so you can get a better look.

Oh yea - here is my first try at freestyle in a Comp-Arf Yak 55sp... not the best flying but I did manage to stay on queue: http://www.capitalcityflyers.com/video/James%20Bond%20-%20low%20res.wmv

So would this be a bad time to rub it in that it is going to be around 60 here this weekend?

Did you feel that Kevin? If / when I meet you I owe you a smack on the head - and also some beers for you and your dad for the help LOL. It just dumpped snow here last night... again. I'm running out of room to shovel it. With all my building and pre season work done just think how much practice I'll get before spring! (trying to stay positive)

No comments on the scheme or the flying???

Actually when I posted before I was still downloading the file of you flying. I think the plane looked good and seemed to fly pretty well. If you fly the sportsman sequence like that on the simulator i would say you probably are in pretty good shape in real life. I think the simulator is very hard to judge because it is almost impossible to follow the same line like you would in real life. I would have zeroed you on the spin entry though, again I think that is just a characteristic of the simulator though.

In general when I try to help people with IMAC there are a few things I always look for. 1. alway try to correct with ailerons instead of rudder. 2. Make your corrections in corners not on straight lines when it is more visable. 3. If it is blowing in drop your right wing just a bit to keep your line, if it is blowing out drop your left wing a bit. 4. Make your box huge. 5. use the counting system to center your maneuvers. 6. Take your time!!! (full throttle is for vertical lines only)

Hey Kevin - thanks for the tips.

Yes - the spin would have been 0. There were a lot of things that would have been downgrades - the loop with roll was a mess. In the simulator it is very hard to get airplanes to stall into a spin entry unless they are heavy scale planes. My Cap 580 is like that too in real life... it doesn't really stall or drop a wing ... it just goes into a nose-down elevator even on low rates... I guess I need the CG forward more? I have the CG where I like it for inverted and KE... my Yak on the other hand stalls perfect.

This year I read that IMAC are wanting the box small - they are going to penalizing people for not flying tight sequences... seems contrary to what everyone tells me. All the videos I have the guys fly freaking MASSIVE boxes. You could never do that here. Jason Noll flys a box about 1 mile long from what I figure. Flying nice gives way more tim and you don't have to rush - so I get ya on that one. I always fly better when I fly "lazy." I'll find the link to wher I saw that IMAC post - it was on mini-iac somewhere.

It's hard for me to fly big in real life because all the fields here (all 7 of them) have very short flight lines - like 1,200 to 1,500 feet. So I fly tight out of necessity (i.e. to keep the citys / neighbours happy.) I would love to fly bigger... Also they have 400ft ceilings - which you get to VERY fast in big airplane. We have air traffic over pretty much all the fields. I missed a cessna by a hair last year - he thought our field was a strip! I was flying down wind about 75 ft up, turned around and pulled up at center field and there he was 125 ft up if that barely moving just checking out the field - holy crap! I didn't even hear or see him until I flew by - flew right past his window between the wing and the stab!!!! Got a phone call that night... not good.

The Panzl will be set up just for IMAC so I will figure out how to get it to stall right.
