Congratulation to this very fine plane....it has a very good builder

The bouncing by landing the model is very characteristic, mostly every pilot of the YMF-5 had made this experience.....me too

The trick is, give just in the moment when the wheels touch the ground a little bit down with the elevator.

The tail of this plane is heavy, and want just in this moment move downward, the working angle will increase and the plane

lift's off again, but too slow, and it will stall. The tick down with the elevator hinders it very effectly.

Status: offline 		I know it's been a while since anyone's been on this thread, but perhaps someone can help. I've been wanting to buy the Peter Barth 1/4 scale Waco. I emailed Peter and he informed me he did have a 1/4 scale kit he could ship to Proctor for my purchase. However he indicated the pre-bent landing gear wires and the cabane struts would not be soldered and I would have to solder them myself. I have soldered landing gears and cabanes before on other kits, wrapping the joints with thin copper wire and then silver-soldering them. However on those kits you usually had instructions to build a jig or other means to insure accuracy. To you who have had experience in building the Barth Waco, do you think there's enough information given with the kit to do an accurate job of this soldering?

Status: offline 		Hi, The gear wire will be pre-bent to shape I think. All you would need to do is mount them tho the fuse and bring them togeather at the correct position and wrap with copper or steel wire and the use a silver solder of at least 50% silver content. You can get this type of solder at any welders supply store. Make sure you get a good flux paste with it. And use a propane torch to heat parts...a electric solder iron will never get the metal hot enough to melt that type of solder.
Other than that I think you will have no problem with Barth's gear or kits. Peter's blue prints are usually very good and all aspects of construction can be done from them alone. I built his 33% kit and the "instruction" booklet that came with the kit was of a very bare minimum type. I know for a fact that Peter has updated his kits since I built mine and they are even a better value than before. The fiberglass parts are just beautiful and very detailed in the updated kits. I even ordered a new cowl from him because of the fantastic detail he has molded into the "new" cowls compared to my "old style" cowl. I also know he has improved the rib detail a lot compared to the old style. I enjoyed building this plane and both fly just perfect. And besides there is no more beautiful bi-plane built than the Wacos.
Go ahead and get the kit now as it will take about 5-6 weeks minum to get the kit from Germany to the west coast. Peter ships the kits via sea transport so if you wait you may have to wait till he has more kits to send. You will enjoy building this kit and have a plane that turns heads where ever you go. And I asure you, NO ARF will even come close to your own Barth Waco. NEVER!!! This is a model to be proud of and to me 90% of the enjoyment was building the thing.

Status: offline 		Thanks for the feed-back SoCalSal. Silver soldering I'm quite familiar with and have all the supplies, and you're quite correct, you would use a torch on those wires. Chuck L built the 1/4 scale and sent me his construction photos. Like you said, it looks like you would just mount the wires to the fuse, get them lined up properly, and solder them. After looking at the photos it doesn't look like doing an accurate soldering job will be that difficult. You certainly have a beautiful Waco. Thanks again.

Status: offline 		Well I've finally put some time on the board with my Barth 1/3 Scale WACO. Except for my nearly non-existant german reading and writing skills the project is moving. Tonight I discovered that the GFK Main Gear Fairings and foward fuselage fairing (gear to fuse) are missing from my kit. Hopefully Steven and or Goetz at Volgelsang will be able to remedy this missing parts quickly as it is time to fit them.

Status: offline 		I am just in week 2 of my Barth 1/3 build. I am using the MOKI 250. How far back and what size fuel/smoke tanks did you install. I am using an electric fuel pump so distance should not pose a problem. I am hoping that with proper placement of the fuel/smoke system and batteries I can avoid needing additional "dead weight"

Status: offline 		I bought a semi-built 1/3 scale Barth Waco kit yesterday, the fuselage is about 60%. The manual that came with the kit is a decent English translation, but only covers the fuselage and the start of the tail feathers. Vogelsang sent me a pdf file of the manual, although it is complete, it is a broken English translation that is hard to follow. Apparently Peter lost the decent English translation version. Does any one have a copy of the decent English translation of the manual or know where I can get one? The kit is a year old and is his current design.
