Howdy nchrome,
Thanks for the info. I didn't look there, didn't know they had one that size but will check it out. Sorry to hear about your mishap. I had my first motor out situation a few weeks ago after about 10 flights on the plane. I'd forgotten to disable one of the ESC wires on my Twin Simple Stick. Guess I was really lucky as it went out in a right turn and that was the motor that had stopped. I knew something was wrong so I chopped the throttle immediately and brought it towards me into the wind and set it down a little too hard. It was quite aways away from me so I could've had more damage. All that was hurt was the landing gear was bent way back and I had knocked the tail feathers off it but that's a weak area to start with. Not the same as hurting a great warbird but it's a good first twin I think. I also just bought a Twin-Air .20 off eBay. I'd been wanting that kit for an electric build for about 2 yrs. or more.
Anyway thanks again for the info. I'll give it a try. Needless to say I was really disappointed to find the "glass" was missing in the kit. Should have known something was missing with the "sold as is" mentioned in the ad several times.

Thanks,
SJ

SJ, The standoffs were purchased along with the engines. Looks like they are out of business now. But, i found this page for you.

Thanks Ichy,
I like those a lot except for the price, just a little steep on a fixed disability income. However I think I saw something close (aluminum) to that at the local Ace Hardware. I don't think they were open on both ends though. They were tapped on one end so maybe I could drill and tap the other end. I tried some hard plastic tubing but the least little thing causes the motor to get out of alignment and loose.

Thanks,
SJ

Ichy, Very well done and should be very strong. I'm probably missing something here but what about access to the fuel tank. I'm thinking of making a removeable firewall so as to access the engine mounting bolts .... they need to be behind the firewall.... and also tank access.

Slowjohn, I also don't have the plastic for the glass nose "C" model. The plan maker, Don Smith doesn't provide them . Thus I plan to make a vacuform machine in an attempt??? to make my own probably sometime in April. If you make a mold I might be able to make the plactic parts you need.

Thanks wingspar,
That would be fantastic, thank you very much. With all the projects I have going at the moment it'll probably be that long before I'd even be close to being ready for it. I've been attempting to make a nose cowl from some plastic bottles & a heat gun for a bash of an Ace Simple Series Ultimate. I finally gave up and settled on a balsa nose cowl on the 5th attempt. I'm using that kit for patterns to scratch build 4 planes from it so I have plenty to keep me busy plus the 10 or so kits in waiting and about 6 planes in various stages of completion. Also as I think I mentioned I just got a Twin-Air .20 kit off eBay. I've been wanting that kit for 2 or 3 years and can hardly wait for it to get here this week. It'll be several months I'm sure before I'll be ready for it as I've just started flying Twins. I've got the Twin Simple Stick, a GWS C-47 flying at the moment and I have a scratch build Twin Mustang almost finished. The Twin Mustang was patterned from the Simple Series P-51 but I didn't lengthen the fuselage any so I guess it can be called a true Twin Mustang. I try to get at least 2 models from the Ace Simple Series kits. Makes for good value from the kits for me.
BTW, I've been following along on this thread since ya'll started it. Thanks again and I'll be in touch.

Dave, I asked the question about tank access and removable firewall on the other forum. I'll bet that you/we can bolt the firewall in at the corners. I think there is lots of room. Also, what you can't see on the photo of my Yak is that the bottom part of the engine box is open except for a small amount of wood around the perimeter. Here is a photo of the front of the A-26 nacelle with a 24 oz tank. Sorry it's blurred.

I've think I've come up with a good solution for a removable firewall. I've switched back to the outer wings as the RDS arrived and I'd like to get them finished and fully sheeted.

I've forget what the fuel consumtion is on a 40cc engine. Will 24 oz allow a good 8 to 10 minute filght?

Also where did you get your electronic engine cut off??

Glad you got the RDS. A neat system! I can't remember what's in my Yak but it has a half a tank left after 15 minutes. If I remember I'll take alook tonight.

http://electrodynam.com/rc/EDR-107/index.shtml for the switch. Works great!

Let us know about the firewall. I have a ways to go before I'm there yet. I'm going on vacation for several weeks, so If I don't get a chance to look at the fuel tank tonight it will be 1st of December. Take care.

The RDS arrived . I'm planning on using them on the ailerons. Opening up the box I found that everything was very well packaged. Trying to follow the instructions on their web sit I started the install. After installing the hinges, I located the pocket just behind the hinge line reinforcing both areas top and bottom. Then the fun part of installing the servo and torque rod. I needed cut off about two inches of the torque rod for my installation. Installed servo couplers to servo. I'm using Hitec 5955TG servo. No need to worry about slop with these Titanium geared servos. Note the way the servo mounts to allow fore and aft movement for fine adjustment of the torque rod in relation to the pocket.

Notes:

I was surprised at how stiff the aileron was using this system. No worries about flutter here. Also when the aileron is in the "0" position there is little to no load on the servo. I think when using this you should use a good ball bearing digital servo. If you need to make a small adjust up or down you can't just pop off a clevis, rotate it a few turns and put it back on the control horn. With a digital servo and a programmer it's easy to do this.

Back to the wing center section.

More work on the nacells:

Front end modified from being solid to a more built up structure. I've order out a 24 oz fuel tank and have sealed the inner box with West marine epoxy.

No worries Kthmarks, I'll keep posting. Ichy has a great A-26 build going on over at rcscalebuilder.com. He's putting in more scale detail then I am. Might want to check that one out too.

The Invader should make a good twin with it's ample wing area and large rudder.

Thanks for watching

Dave
