I'm back working on this beast. I'm going to leave the wing center section for now and work on the nose. I need to try to detail the interior as best as I can do. I've never done this before but I'll do my best. Then make the molds for the clear nose section and vacuform them. I've never done this either so it should be a good learning experince.

For those who might be interested I found a great website for the A-26 with alot of pics I've never seen before.

more pics to follow shortly.

I got the basic nose section framed in. I just need to seal the wood, prime and paint it with paint I've ordered from Warbircolors.

Then construct the mold in my attempt to make my own nose glass section.

Nice! Even got the crawl-through to the pilots cockpit! What gear are you using? I am using CJ. The steering servo will be right in the middle of mine. Highly visible.

Ichy; I still want to put some detail on the opening hatch and was thinking of making it funtional but deceided against it as I would like to fly this one of these days and get onto another projects.

The gear is Sierra and it will be fully hidden with the steering control mounted just inside the bomb bay with the cables running just under the cockpit floor.

Thanks Eric.

I made the top glass nose section out of 1/4" balsa and pink foam. I glued the pink foam in rather large blocks to the balsa form. I first tried to trim it with a sharp knife. Not alot of success. The blade kept getting stuck. Then I tried 50 grit sand paper. Could be done but this would take a week. Then I tried a thin 1/5" piece of brass heated on the gas stove. This worked ok but got the house stinky. Then I got the idea of using the electric knife and voila, success. It allowed me to trim it very close to its final shape. Alittle fine sanding and some filler and it's done. It also made it slightly undersized to compensate for the fiberglass top coat and the plastic itself. Note to self.. when using things from the kitchen insure wife is not at home.

Fiberglass it and make a vacuum box and see if it works.

I got the bottom part done on the glass nose section. The plastic has arrived and I should be able to pull a nose section by next week. I also got the inside sealed and primed and will add a few more details before spraying it.

Really looking good there Dave. I'm looking forward to seeing how your nose cone turns out. I got my molds made, just need to clean them up some more. The 1st pour didn't turn out so good so I tried again and they came out okay. Then a few weeks back the wife called me from a yard sale saying they had some compressors. Turns out one of them was a medical vacuum pump so I'll be making a set up to make my own canopies now. Thanks for the offer, I sure appreciated it.

Thanks Again &
Standing By,
SJ

Dave, I found this photo of the underside of an A-26 for detail.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/si558/2672207012/sizes/o/

I have reinstalled the tail group back on mine. I had to cut a large hole in the fuse to do this, as well as redo the linkages for the rudder and elevators. I need to plank that hole up and then it's time to install the main gear. Our club is having a scale fun fly on the 26th and I intend to get it out into the sunshine and show it off!
