I just got a Long EZ-46 Voyager pusher, does anyone have any experence with this plane and could you give me some information about the set up requirements. The user manual leaves a lot to be desired, is there a new one that has been done yet. Thanks in advance for any help.

I assembled and flew this plane this summer. You are competely correct in that the manual does leave a lot to be desired. I had to modify/figure out a lot of things myself. What are you having problems with??? I'll definitely help you if I can.

Thanks for getting back to me. I have just started to put the plane together I was hoping that I could find a more complete updated manual which gave me the initial control throws and other information with the engine and what kind of muffler to use for a pusher plane.

Unfortunately you're not going to find a better manual for it anywhere. I agree, the one that came with the plane is very poor. I'll have to go to storage unit to measure what I did for the throw rates on mine. But I can tell you that I used an OS 46 FX on mine, with a Slimline Pitts muffler. If you are going to try and fly it with the engine cowl on it you'll need to use the Pitts muffler. But, on mine I ended up removing the cowl. I was having huge problems with the engine overheating. I cut larger openings in the cowl and still couldn't keep it from overheating, so I just removed the cowl on it.

Another huge point. Triple check the elevator joiner wire that comes with it. The one that came with mine first off had the control arm just press fit on, and was very loose. Second, my wire was bent a bit and while I was straightening out the wire it snapped in half. I threw it away and built a new one from scratch.

On my plane the pre-installed servo tray was mounted upside down, so it didn't match the instructions. I had to build a new throttle pushrod tube because of this.

I took a lot of pictures while I was building mine, so if you have any questions let me know and I'll see if I have a picture to help you out.

Hello fellas,

I ordered mine yesterday and am planning to build it over the weekend. I read that some people have added a retract to the nose gear. Can anyone tell me what king they used? I think I would like to do the same. Also, I am planning to put a OS .46 LA on her. With a 10X8 pusher prop. Do you think this would be a good match? I have an AX but I don't want to pull it from my Cox Ultimate.

Any help appreciated and I will be sure to let you know how the maiden went.

hey everyone,
i ordered my voyager from nitro models and have been building it for awhile.
I'm finnaly to the point to mount the engine but with the pusher prop i ordered
it doesn't seem to fit the spinner. I was wondering if there is some type of spinner
specifically made for a pusher prop? Any help is much appreciated.

HI Guys,

I had built the Nitromodels Long EZ 46 and the first flight was far less than perfect. Ended in a hard snap to the left after a slight hop. Luckily, just broke a wing tip and beng gear. After fixing and reading all the threads, we took it up agian today. First flight didn't go great, CFIT. Funny thing was, the plane was SUPER sensitive at full power, but ass soon as I throttled back it was a kitten. After straighting the great and trimming a little, it went up without a hitch. It was a sight to see and boy it's fast. A low flying plane had come into the pattern and forced a quick landing so the flight ended early. My .02 on what the manual is missing.

1. Follow the throws recommend by AK-models, 1/4 up and down for elev (make sure its backwards compared to a traditional plane) -40% expo, 3/8" aileron with -25% expo.

2. Setup the Canard so the trailing edge is flush with the bottom of the leading edge.

3. make sure the CG with empty tank is at the CG point or slightly ahead. You will feel like it's a lot of weight, but you will be happy when its in the air

4. take off with half a tank and don't stay up too long.

5. if on grass, put on 3" foam wheels

Gonna take it up again tomrrow. Hopefully, it will be a fun as today.

Ok, first off, here are some pics of my Long Ez 46.

You don't need to take off with the tank 1/2 full. It's just that the plane needs to be balanced a bit different than what most of us are used to. On a "normal" plane you balance the plane with the tank empty, it's exactly opposite with the tank behind the CG. Balance the plane with the tank full. I don't remember how much I needed, but I remember I needed quite a bit of extra weight up front to balance (more than what they ship with the plane).

With the spinner, just carve it out to fit the prop. There isn't any differnce in the way a spinner is set up with a pusher prop.

One biggie that almost got me (and I've been flying for 10 years), and if a buddy of mine hadn't caught it my plane would have been toast. The elevators are totally backwards from the "normal" plane. The elevators need to move DOWN in order for the plane to go up, and UP for the plane to go DOWN. Make sure you don't miss this when checking your throws.

Mine flies great and I love flying it. It takes a little to get used to because the plane "looks" like it's flying backwards!!! [:D] [:D] [:D]

So with balancing the plane, nearly every thread I have read says to balance with an empty fuel tank. Others say with Fuel. It makes sense to me to balance with a full tank of gas. If not, it could be tail heavy and we all know what happens next with a tail heavy aircraft after takeoff.

Any thoughts? I built mine over the weekend and am planning to maiden this week.

A couple of things I wanted to say aboyut the plane, and if anyone else has experience this, please pipe in.

The eye bots in the wings (two in where it meets the fuse and the winglests) were all missaligned. So bad that the nylon nuts wont screw in. The winlets will not line up either, they are at least a half inch to narrow. The wings are not usable. Its almost like the guy that built it was having a very bad day.

No Spinner in the Box

Canopy was so scratched up that I need to order a new one.

I have askede Nitro RC to replace for me, I will let you all know how they respond.

Ok,

On the CG you must balance with the tank full of gas. I would highly recomend not following the directions of other people who tell you otherwise. I also confirmed this with the manufacturer. If you balance the plane dead on with no gas, and then get to the field and add gas, you will have a tail heavy aircraft and it will crash. I am willing to be that this accounts for at least 90% of the crashes of the EZ..............


Go back and re-balance the plane with a full tank of gas for any of you that balanced with no gas in the tank... I garantee you it will fly beautifully. I maidened mine yesterday and it was flawless...

well everyone,
the maiden flight was yesterday and everything worked out just well. Except
it took like 5 trys to get my voyager off of the ground. I'm running an OS .46AX
on it an it has plenty of power. It just takes the whole runway and lots of airspeed to lift it.
Does anybody know why? Just curious if there is anything i can do to get it to take off faster?

Hey Taylor,

You and I both maidened theEZ's tbhis weekend. How did you balance yours? Tank empty or full? I am running a .46 LA and it has plenty of power. I was shocked at how fast it was in the air. It takes so much runway because you have to get the canard to lift first before the main wings will bite in the air. I had the same problem taking off. Actually getting it to come back down was the hard part....it just floats and floats. But what a blast!

your right about it being just as hard to get back on the ground as it is to get it up. lol
I was also shocked on how fast this can get up to. This plane is also really cool looking in the air.
Can't wait to get back up there again. Anyway i balanced my tank empty, and it seemed to be very
balanced in the air.

Yeah, I was surprised at its speed, that thing is faster than Cermark Javellin II and that thing is fast. It just does not want to land, I literally aborted 5 landings in a row because I was going to overshoot.. and my club has a long runway. I have not put it to the test to see if it will roll and snap but everything I hear says that it will....but it is NOT an aerobat.

Can wait to get up there again myself Taylor. I think I found my new fav...for the moment anyway!

I have HAD one of these, I had 8 take offs and 7 landings, I have since read through these pages, I wish I had before I flew it, the instruction book badly needs an update, I would recomend the balance point is with a full tank of fuel, it is way tail heavy without a full tank, check the elevator control wire, mine was bent, I didnt find out until I had installed the elevators and the cause of the crash could have been flutter from the linkage, I am not sure, I mixed flaperons on mine, that made it a lot better, I was using full up elevator to get it off the ground on take off, I used an OS 46 FX with an 11x6 APC prop and it went well.
I think it looked great in the air and am still thinking of buying another one, but I will be checking the C of G with a full tank and check the elevator linkage wire, I was happy with the Kit, it went together fairly well with only a few minor problems. The elevators point down for up elevator.

I test flew long ez 46 sat. It did not want to fly. I balanced the cg according specs. 5.980 in. empty tank. I had to add almost as much weight to it as they sent. I now understand that maybe my tank should have been full. Also, can anyone tell me how much throw should on the elevator for up and down(I know down is up and up is down.) Any info how how to make it fly would be appreciated. This about a Nitro model long EZ 46 ARF, thanks layo
