All new engines foul plugs during the break in period. Its not a MAGNUM problem. Just one of those things that goes with the hobby.Im sure anybody who knows SOMETHING about this hobby will tell you the same.

I have run about 2 litres through my Magnum - a few screws come lose and I bent a shock tower - but that was my own fault. I tightened all the screws and used locktite. Pretty good for a first RC truck or RC anything really. Lots of fun taking it to bits and reassembling it - good documentation.

Is it really that bad. I mean with the compliants people have it doesn't sound too great. Especially cujoman's comments. I was/am looking to get one.

I picked up a used nx3.0 magnum for $150 on craigslist then found a brand new on ebay for less than 160 shipped for a friend. I've spent about $250 in parts and stuff on mine after running less than a gallon of gas. This post gave me a good opportunity to track almost all of my spending on this car. Sure hope that I stop spending so much on it in the upcoming months...

** some prices below incl. shipping

------------------------------------------

clutch bell bearing seized shortly after someone ran the car through a couple inches of water. I damaged the cluch bell and gears on accident when trying to remove what I thought was a stuck outer bearing shell. Turns out that was part of the machining of the inside on the cluch bell. Nice work, huh? Clutch shoes looked worn so some bought new ones - why not? Not sure how much the truck was run to wear out the shoes because I bought it used. Maybe it could have lasted longer on the clutch shoes but due to shipping and buying on the internet I didn't want to run the shoes to the limit and have to wait on a new set to arrive.

clutch bell (stock magnum gears), 15
clutch bell bearings 5X8X2.5 (10), 13
clutch shoes, 15

------------------------------------------

bought this on accident because I didn't pay attention to the model number for the magnum. May use with the stadium tires to bring top speed back up though the truck is plent fast still with the smaller tires.

clutch bell (stadium truck pinion), 10

------------------------------------------

ran over a tree branch and it jammed into the muffler mount and broke it. didn't realize this until the car started getting real jittery and uncontrollable from the interference of the metal on metal touching

muffler mount, 5

------------------------------------------

engine mounts came loose and damaged spur gears. If I would have known better would have checked this more often.

spur gears, 14

------------------------------------------

hit a tree dead on at full speed on pavement - couldn't tell from my angle the road curved so much. The chassis bent and the 4wd shaft bent too. I just bent these back using a vice and push/pulling with my hands to straighten the chassis. The 4wd shaft was a bit difficult to get straight - still isn't 100%. Used a hammer and block of 2x4 to tap it close to straight as possible.

FF210 Counter Plate, 5.00
FF237 Mech Plate, 10.00
FF244 fuel tank Drain, 4.50
fuel tank, 16.50

------------------------------------------

wanted to run at a clay track, got this good deal on wheels/tires when buying parts to fix the truck after the tree incident. The monster truck tires with no foam inserts performed horrible on the track. The stock tires also shake/shimmy like mad when running at high speed on pavement. Any suggestions on replacement for general bashing around?

MD014 Stadium Tires (4), 20.00
MD016 Wheels (4), 10.00

------------------------------------------

didn't really need this stuff at the time, just bought it in case I ever do

FF080 Brake Disc 0.50
G70205 Silicon Differential Oil #5000, 4.50
G70429 Super Glow Plug #3 (2), 8.20
wheel bearings 5X11X4 (10), 16

------------------------------------------

other stuff

failsafe, 12.5 (decided to get this after car went out of control and smacked a fence a medium speed)
5 cell hump pack + charger, 16
on/off switch for new battery pack, 6
infrared temp gauge, 12.5
2 gallons of nitro, 48
tire glue, 4

------------------------------------------

today the pilot shaft (holds the clutch bell to the crank shaft) snapped off after about 45 minutes of running at the kids bmx clay track. Jumps weren't extreme and nothing seemed to cause the part to break but its so thin now that I can see where it sheared off. Luckily this is about the cheapest part I've needed yet.

Theres a thread going here that says CEN REALLY CARES or something like that. Its where CEN is SUPPOSED to listen to our input and concerns.Just the other day I asked them if they would consider producing a 1/10 truck with GENESIS /NEMESIS quality due to the poor quality of their smaller trucks.CEN already has the best 1/8 RC trucks on the planet,no doubt.I dont think its to much to ask for a durable, badass 1/10.Several of us deserve that after wasting money on these funfactors. You made steel gears to fix the gear strippage problem, but what about all these other problems on this thread?More bad than good.A 1/10 or baby GST or NEMESIS,with 2 speed, forward only and all steel gears would suit me perfect. Its going to take more than me to get CEN to consider this,so you know what to do.This thread alone should be enough for them to come up with something new

I've had my magnum for about three weeks and only driven it a hand full of times since break in. In those three weeks I've managed to bend both the rear upper shock mount screws, shocks keep popping off at the top, bent the rear shock mount, lost a body mount screw, broke the screw holding the steering linkage to the servo arm. I'm starting to wonder if I bought the right truck or not.

The car is quite fragile compared to my matrix which can take a beating well. I now have 2 spare magnums purchased on ebay to pull parts from. Perhaps if you need some parts I could help. Email me at cr@att.biz with your requests if interested. I need to start selling the magnum stuff - I haven't driven mine in about a month ever since picking up the matrix.

Thanks for the offer but I'm not really looking for used parts, what I want are new upgraded parts for the problem areas, perhaps CEN can address these issues. Are there any upgrade ball mounts for the upper rear shock? What about an upgraded rear shock tower or at least a support or protection during roll over. How about aluminum body mounts all the way down to where it connects to the diff case, or a roll cage? These are some items I'd like to see

There are some new cnc shock towers that I purchased from someone on here. These are stronger than stock but I haven't even installed them yet to test. Don't think there are upgrades to the other parts you mentioned but let us know what you find.

After bending my shock tower back to it almost original position, I decided to try and make my own support and body post mount. I had a piece of 90 degree aluminum stock from Lowes that I cut down and drilled out with basic hand tools to make a piece that serves as both support and body mount bracket. I'm still working on the body posts, but for now I'm using threaded rod nuts, and some wing nuts to fasten the body on.

with all the extra leverage the shock towers will really be mangled if you flip over

I don't think so, I think the extra support added to the center of the shock tower will help to strengthen it. The bracket is screwed to both the bottom and the top of the shock tower. It was previously bent in the middle where there is little material to support it under a high speed flip. I guess I will find out when I run it again.
