Hello there, I just purchased a CEN Magnum NX, and have had it for a little less then a week. Havn't had any problems with it yet, but obviously only bashed it around a few times since I have gotten it (pretty hard bashing mind you).

Have not had anything fail or brake, but I did have one rear wheel fall off, the wheel nut just backed off during a driving, after this I decided to take all wheels off and apply my own locktite (blue) to them.

So far it is a damn fast little truck, engine is very reliable / easy break-in. Starts right up and hasn't given me any problems at all!

I have been pouring over sites/forums trying to find out EXACTALLY what the differences are between the Magnum NX, and your typical Fun Factor base. So far they seem very very similar.

This is my first truck personally, infact my first real venture into the RC hobby. My nature is to rip things apart and make them better though, so I think I will fit right in. I would really like to know specifically what the differences / enhancments are between the fun factor's and the NX series, there are so many mods done to fun factors that I would like to do to my Magnum NX if it is needed, but I am having a hard time finding out what CEN has done on their own!

Anyways I would be glad to answer any questions I can, and mabey will keep posting on this topic as I find new things / break new things.

Take it easy,
James

Would be good to hear what your experiences are James.

Aye, the funfactor is pretty much the same, the Magnum just has a longer chassis and different top plate and brake seat, oh and its an 18 engine isnt it?

Most of the FFs problems were allegedly dealt with in the Magnum/NX etc incarcination. As most parts are universal, any info on how you get on with yours would be appreciated by us poor FF owners.

Wow! I have been trolling the forums here for a few days, and have read ALOT of your posts poor judgment. I feel honored to be of assistance.

Yea the Magnum NX (and the MT Spec 3.0) come with the NX 3.0 .18 motor. Seems to be a pretty good little motor, but I have no real experience owning anything else.

I guess my main thing is the whole "allegedly dealt with" thing. I have yet to find any direct comparison of specific parts that were known to be lacking. It's the small things I am wondering about.

Is there anything in specific I would be able to check and report back to you guys here, as far as something that *should* have been changed? I can take all the pictures needed, measure things, whatever.

Keep in mind, my rc terminology is still being developed

The terrain I will be mostly using this in, is anything but forgiving, so I am looking toward any strengthening modifications I can. Really the only thing I have noticed as taking on some wear immediately are the two aluminum gears from the clutch (pinion gears?). After breaking it in, and having some initial bashing, I found that they had taken more damage then the plastic ones did. I assume it was either from the gravel parking lot I was ripping to shreds, or the very hard, sharp and pokey, desert plant that got ran over and sucked up into the gears, locking them up. I know now to avoid them like the plague, and I also think I would like to cover up the hole under the gears in the aluminum.

Why are there holes under the gears and flywheel anyway?

The plant ordeal was not really a problem though, just pulled it out and all was good.

A couple of the problems with the Funfactor line is the diff cups and the cv axles. The Funfactor diff cups break pretty easy. The Magnum diff cups are suppose to be better and I think someone here compared them side by side in a post somewhere. So it would be great to know if you break any and how easily it broke. I have broken them on my funfactor just running across a flat field at the local park. They are that bad. There are a couple threads here on the "diff cup mod" that fixes this problem. It is a must do on a funfactor, but if CEN is correct and fixed the problem you will not need this mod on your Magnum.

Keep us updated on your experience with the Magnum.

Righty-o, well I have allready seen this Magnum take some pretty impressive cartwheel trips.

The second day I had it out I was running on a pretty rough dirt surface, and tried to pull a turn at too high of speed for the amount of ruts in the surface. The Magnum launched into the air and proceded to do a cross between cartwheels and barrel rolls, a total of about 4.

All I had to do was run up and flip her over and all was good. Shortly after that outting, I removed all the wheels and a few other things and inspected everything as best I could, and everything looks fantastic.

Just seeing it take that roll alone and not suffer any damage was enough to make me say "wow", and my roomate to order one off the internet that night!

Well my roomate's Magnum NX came in the mail last night, were fixing to do some long bashing on saturday, after his break-in. So I will have two Magnums that I will be able to closely see how they perform over time.

Wooo! Can't wait till tommarow!

Well, sucsessful day of bashing! For the most part anyways. We were out for about 5 hours and had no break downs.

Couple things to note though. Both of our Magnum NX's came with bad glow plugs. It took me a while to figure it out the first time around on mine. But once I looked at the glow plug, and saw that it did not look like a coil, but more like a smashed and twisted coil, I knew something was not right. As soon as I poped in a new one from my LHS, it fired right up. Same exact story with his Magnum's glow plug, but this time I was awear.

His transmitter was wacky on a arival. It was applying full brake or full throttle, with no in-between. We were both kind of baffled at first, and then decided to pop his crystal in my transmitter, and sure enough, everything worked perfectly. So he will be most likley sending the transmitter back to CEN, unless we can figure something out. All settings are the same on both transmitters.

Other then that, everything was good. I was pretty surprised I didn't break anything today, quite a bit of romping around.

My other buddy just orderd an Acme stadium type truck. Are they any good? I hadn't even heard of them untill he mentioned he ordered one from ebay. He got it damn cheap, so I am going to be interested in its quality.

Too bad about the crystal. never heard of acme. I know a couple of guys that got smartech buggys on ebay dirt cheap. At first I was tempted to get one too, but once they actually got them broken in, I realized that they couldnt drive them more than 10 mins at a time without breaking something.

Yea we were both kind of dissapointed in the whole transmitter issue. It's actually something in his transmitter that is bad. He can like rotate the transmitter slightly in his hand, and the throttle servo just goes full bore one way or the other. Something's not right in the circuitry, mabey making contact some where it shouldnt be, I am not sure.

As far as the Acme trucks, yea he ordered it brand new, ready to ride, for like 130 or so if i remember correctly. Whats funny is it says it can go 60+. Its a single gear stadium truck, with a .15 motor in it. My feeling is its either going to break down in record time, or one way or another not live up to what it says. I did some hunting and found their webpage, its a company out of China.

I am working on a kind of simple addition for my Magnum, basically some heavy duty plexi-glass debri guards. It is kind of hard to describe, but its nearly done and I will snap some pictures of it.

Loving the reports. Great news about your mate getting a CEN aswell, should be handy for spares!! I think your friend who is getting the Acme will be disappointed though. He might have been better finding a second hand Fun Factor off ebay, they are going pretty cheap at the moment.
Its good to hear there are no damages after your barrel rolls. A crash like that would have ruined the diff cups on the old FF. Seems the newer ones are made of sturdier stuff.
