I intend to buy one ,once they are available....................stick a Mag 91 -4 stroke in it...finishing up a Seagull 540 edge now...has a Mag 120 4 stroke in it...

I have been flying one for the last 4 weeks. it has an os 91fx in it with a 16x4 prop. the std control throws are a good starting point. but for good 3D you will need longer horns on the elev. the std EG point like the throws are a good place to start, but this also can be played. it stall better than a trainer and knife edges until tomorrow. the 91 has more than enough power.
get one and have fun to the MAX!

Did you put any right thrust into engine mount? I am planning to put an OS 120 ax in. thanks for any info

How much more power doe's the 120 make over the 91? how much right thrust will I need?

a 91 fx is not enough for 3d I try today and at full trottle was barely hovering , I am going to need a 120 or bigger for 3d , for sport a 91 can be enought , I think I will go with a sk 120 or a moki or a saito 150 I am shopping as we speak (write) , For 3d keep it light and for harrier is require mixing elevator with 20% active spoileron or the plane will rock and roll like crazy, I also use only 1 servo for the elavator and rudder direct connect , a plane of this size doesent need 2 servo for the aileron , I also use A fast micro servo for the trottle making more space in the fuse and I move the tank under the wing tube for neutral CG 6V battery and Hi torque MG servo for precision flight , I got mine last monday after waiting for 2 month from horizon hobby and this yak is really a good quality with great hardware and accessories , the only thing that I change form the original hardware is the tailwheel , I got mine from troy built models R/C Blimp Titanium Tailwheels

I plan on getting one for my Saito 1.25, I almost spent twice as much for the 67" Goldberg Yak but I believe the Seagull will be a better match for the engine I have.

the 67" goldberg yak is to heavy for a 1.25 , You are going to need a saito 1.50 or better a 1.80 , I had the goldberg with a saito 1.25aa and i was hovering at full trottle , I sold the golberg and I got a seagull much better quality , for 3d I always try to have a static trust double of weight of the plane , so if the plane is 8 lb you are going to need at least 16 lb of static thrust for best resault

how do you determin static thrust iam putting the 125 satio motor on this plane and iam at 3700 fett elav. any help please

I just put 50 bucks down on one at the LHS. I plan on putting an OS 120AX in it.

Yes I am well on with mine just need to fit U/C. I will have to replace axles as they are not welded together correctly It has OS 120 AX with 16x8 prop futaba 9 cap radio digital servos on elevator rest are 3001.Don't know when the weather will allow test flight it's crap in the Uk this time of year.

Mine should be here any day, I'll post pics this weekend if it arrives on time. I may get motivated & post pics as I assemble.

Will use a Saito 1.25 & JR digital servos.

seems like seagull is upping the notch on quality, this bird looks really nice. Large control surfaces, solid finish and a half decent weight from manufacturer specs. Id love to hear a flight report with a large 4 stroker

Diablokid Iam going with 125 satio will let you know how it flys but will be a while seance run way will be white with snow until spring 69 roadrunner

RoadRunner have you weighed the components yet?

Mine just arrived tonight, and it seems to have good build quality and is nicely covered...but man it is built like a tank! I'll try and get parts weighed tomorrow, won't be able to begin work on it till next weekend (no big deal as we have 3 months at least before flying weather).

Road Runner - The pics look great. I have one on order from my LHS and can't wait! I like your tinted canopy way better the Seagull pictures showing a clear canopy with a pilot figure. Do the ARFs come this way or was this a mod you made?

I bought mine today from the local hobby shop and got started by weighing everything in the box.
Everything is in ozs.

Fuse 11.89
Fin/Rudd 2.15
Stab/Ele 3.08
Canopy 7.79
W Tube 3.23
Cowl 4.27
Gear 6.54
Motor Mount 2.75
Hardware 2.97
Misc ply .50
Wheels/tailwheel 3.13
Spinner 1.67
Wheel pants 3.57

Total 53.54 ozs. (3.35lbs)

Now I don't plan on using the wheel pants or the spinner so minus them it's 48.3 ozs (3.02lbs)


The first thing I did was lighten the canopy. That brought the weight down from 7.79oz to 4.66ozs. A savings of 3.13 ozs. Well worth the effort.

So my kit componenets weigh 2lbs 13.28ozs. Pretty decent I would say for an arf.

The pics of the canopy mods below.

Will be using a Saito 1.25.

chumley I cut the inside of the canopy out and then pained it with black paint the plane is olmost done just need to ad satio 125 then will give final weight at this point iam 6lbs the motor and muffler wieght is 1.5 lbs so total with fuel cell sould be 8lbs or so maybe 8.5 the moter sould handle this fine tha bad part is we cant fly un til spring

I forgot to weigh the wings and ailerons last night! [:@]

R. Wing/Ron 9.90 oz
L. Wing/Ron 9.20 oz

total 19.1ozs.

So all actual kit components that I plan on using weigh just barely over 4lbs.

Thanks for the info. Your mod looks great and saves weight. I'm not a fan of the pilot figure, so I will be making the same mod when my kit arrives next week! I have the Saito 1.25, but not the airplane yet. Like Capthis, I would like to know what kind of paint you used so as to not melt the plastic. Also, which servos are you guys using? This will be my first larger than .45 airplane, so I know I need better servos. My intended use is 3D (although I'm not quite capable yet). Thanks again for the info - any other ideas you and Capthis have, I'd appreciate.

I agree with a lot of your litening ideas. Anyone thought of a way to make some light weight spats inplace of the wheelpants?
