I guess if you ask the same question a different way, somebody might give you an answer to something that has been discussed extensively. Like you said, time well spent.....Used to be you had to be patient to build a kit, now with ARF's, you need to take the time to read the long threads on popular planes to see what others have done before you. I don't start a plane without checking R/C Universe first.

...yep...the days of instant gratification...if I was lookin' for that, I would not be in the middle of building a TF Stinson Reliant!

    Bo,

It will be worth the time. I have one with a fox 3.2 in it and it flies very well.

Got any pics...I'm putting an Evolution 36X in mine. Got the full f'glas set from Precision. I have it framed and am starting on mounting the wings. I love to build! But, I also enjoyed the engineering challenge of the TF 310..great plane...I have several twins.

Well I had another great flight with the 310 although i still need to slow it down a little more on landing but since we foamed the wings it does not matter for you can drop it in a little harder with no fear of cracking the spars like has happen to some. for the little extra work it is a lot of insurance.

    Hi Allen

Could you explain how you foamed the wings, I looked back over the thread but could not see anything

    Thanks

    Alan,

If you have not started the airplane it is easier but you can still do it afterwards. We went to the hardware store and bought a couple cans of the spray in foam that expands after you spray it in. you cut some small releif holes in the bottom of the wing and the spray in the foam the extra will come out the releif holes and when it dries you cut it off then sand and re cover the holes.we took all the wiring out of the wing then took a long drill and drilled a hole through the foam so you can re run your wires. this wing is at least five times as strong when you are done and you only add 3 or 4 oz's of weight total and belive me it is well worth the time and trouble to do this. mine flies the same as it did before with no change in CG. this wing only has a top spar so you can see the importance of making this wing stronger. let me know if i can answer any more questions.

Which foam did you use as there are many types available. Want to make sure I use the right stuff. I have some at home that I use to seal the windows in my house where they meet the window sill. Will that work ok.

Well, maidened my 310 yesterday and I have to say, what a beauty she is in the air. With a pair of OS 46AXs, she takes a while to get up to step. I used almost all of the grass runway at our field to get her up to speed. Once airborne, a slow steady climb was the order of the day. Once she's airborne and the gears and flaps are retracted that's when she really shines. Even with the 46s she seemed to have plenty of speed. Not fast by any means, but she feels comfortable. Scale like would be an apt description. The hardest part was the landing. Droping the flaps, she immediately wanted to balloon, which even though I anticipated, still took me by surprise as to the amount. First landing attempt was a little hot so a go around was in order. Second attempt was much better and she settled in nicely on the mains and rolled to a smooth stop. The elevators at the reccomended setting were way too sensitive so I will have to tone those down and add in some expo. Also, I will mix in some down elevator with the flaps. The wheels were another story though as I noticed the hub on one of the main wheels had desintigrated. Looks like I'll be looking for a replacement before I take her out again. Over all I'm very happy with the way she handles and this being my first Giant scale plane and first twin I couldn't be happier.

    Congrats!

I added 8% down elevator to the flaps and that seems to about right for mine.

Here are couple of movies of my friend Jorge Acosta's 310, 2nd day of flight after solving some glitching problems (he changed the receiver) on the first day.

This one is powered by two sets of 10s1p A123 cells, one battery, esc and motor per nacelle.. total weight is about 21lbs with air retracts.. takeoff on grass is no problems, neither is landing. Film by Sam Matos, instrumental music by Kenny G:

Obviously no problem starting the motors, keeping them running or hiding them in the nacelles.
