ok, will call this one the Chrysler knock offs...... bit off topic but along the same lines.. Plymouth acclaim and Dodge spirit..both made by Chrysler/Dodge and are pretty much identical and can switch out any parts for either... Why did they do this? TO MAKE MORE MONEY.. obviously these "knock offs" have to be made in a factory.. but can you say which one? well maybe the factory also makes Kyosho,Tamiya,Losi Etc... ever think about that???

That comparison isn't quite accurate. Dodge and Plymouth are owned by the same company. Companies like Tamiya and HBX are not.

I think some crap can come out of China, just like the US. But don't under estimate all the things built over seas. My Losi says made in China right on the bottom of the chassis....The new Boeing 787 has many of its high tech carbon fiber wing sections built in China.
If you think when it says made in the USA on the box, chances are, the design and packaging maybe done here. Just like the 787 built in Everett. It may be assembled here, but its not garanteed to be "made in the USA".

not the same thing. All 3 cars are Chrysler products. Different trim and different prices aimed at different audences..

What this thread is about is the 'knockoff' of an expensive rc car by another completely different company(owner not factory) by producing a cheaper version of it. A better example of this in full sized cars is the Kia Sorento(the cheap knock off) and the Lexus RX300 that its was designed after....
BUT..

The 'chinese knock off' rc cars are really NOT a knock off at all. Give you an exapmple.. my Redcar Shockwave. 1/10 4wd buggy. Its not based off of any other car. its really its one design (shared with other cheap Chinese cars) but the point being is.. Its not a knockoff. Its an incorrect used term here. It is just an inexpensive rc car. Its really NOT a knockoff of a more expensive car. Not all all

I agree totally FlyinGN! Does anyone here understand why so many people weigh in on this thread?? PASSION, for the rc you own. The only reason this thread was started was so that one person could openly state their rc is superior to any other. I'm not saying thats bad, truth be told its the heart and soul of this hobby. Its all about building up your equipment and being proud of your skill as a builder/tuner. I think we can all appreciate all fellow hobbiests and their opinions for what they are.

As far as the whole knock-off thing goes... Well we all know they are out there and FlyinGN did make a good point about what is and isn't a knock-off. I think you should not look down on these as much as you do because in the big picture its good for our hobby. How?, you ask.. Well first off it provides market competition for the major brands to keep prices in check a bit more. Secondly, it also encourages major brands to do more R&D to stand out from the crowd. Finally, it provides an entry level for newbs to get in the hobby, and this is important because it promotes growth within the hobby like more stores, tracks, racing leagues etc. Not to mention more chances for you to have a unique rc. Imagine showing up at a park or track only to find everyone else has an rc that looks like yours, I know I pride myself in trying to personalize my rc.

They only negative I could think of is someone new in the hobby getting a cheap rc that makes them hate the hobby, but chances are it will also promote them to buy the "superior" brands on the market. I dunno but for fear of rambling on, I will simply say give it some thought as this is of course.... MY 2 CENTS!

I still don't believe in the quality of these cars. There are a bunch of people who claim they are great, but also a lot of people who are telling stories of how they break apart like a balsa wood glider in a hurricane. I don't have any positive proof to say they are junk, nor any proof to say they are of quality. Based on the limited evidence I, myself, have to believe they are poorly made cars.

However, the biggest issue I have is with the ones that clearly have been copied from another manufacturer's design. I know that a lot of the import cars out there are indeed NOT stolen designs. Still there are a number of cars out there that obviously have been copied, and those are the ones that I am totally against.

the only chinese brand I trust is the Hi-Speed brand (HSP, Exceed, Redcat, Amax, etc). I am completely against all others. Especially FMT.

I have to say it's hard to hard to keep track of what company is really owned by who, and what type of products each makes.
