Does anyone have any information, good or bad, on this motor. Looking to power a 35lb plane, haven't really heard much about it, but since its Zenoah, thought it might be a good choice.

It's not only good it is among the best. However if you are going to buy new get the 80 cc they will no longer produce the 445 very soon if not already. See the magazine ad's.

The 445 has been replaced by the GT 80.Both are converted industrial engines, with a magneto ignition which does not vary the engine timing with RPM.It comes with a spring starter and two can mufflers."Sale" price is $1000 Weighs 108oz w/o mufflers.

3W and ZDZ 80cc twins are purpose built model aircraft engines, with variable timing electronic ignitions.Neither includes mufflers.
ZDZ "sale" price is $870.weighs 74oz with ignition.

3W "sale" price is $1000.weighs 104oz (spec sheet does not say whether weight includes the ignition)

all above info is from the mfg/dist websites.........

A small sampling of engines also shows that the ZDZ-80 twin turns a Mejzlik 26x10 around 6600 rpm on in-cowl mufflers, about 100 rpm stronger than a 3W-80 twin. My tach and a friend's engines. The Zenoah is not nearly as strong.

No hobby shops on the Canadian side at all.We survive on US and Canadian mail order and Pinnacle hobby shop in Soo MI.There are very few bargains in Canada anyway. For example,I bought one of my Quadras from Canadian mail order, and the other on the net,NIB,from a chap in Alaska of all places.....
Quadras Canadian pricing, plus all our taxes, and in this case freight and insurance if mail order, would conspire to wipe out most savings ,IMO.
Unionville Hobbies kits are one true bargain, but most supplies here are from the same sources as in the US,and often come through a wholesaler who has the rights to North america. If you can find a way to save a buck ,you can use my address as a drop.Im about 10 minutes from the bridge.....(Heck....I,ll even stick any engines in a plane and break it in for you !)

The three different 445 engines I have tached all turned a Zinger 24-10 between 6800 and 7000, using a TNC tach, altitude 6000 feet...Don't have a 26-10..Two were converted to CD, one was stock magneto...The new 80 is very close to the same..
445s converted to methanol are the engine of choice for USRA racing engines in the 76cc class, used in Formula one and biplane...The record speed for last year is 175+ mph around a 1600 foor pylon course, timed by radar...Don't see any other brands, with the exception of a few Q75s and 4.4 Huskys..Next year the engine spec will be set at 81cc, so maybe some other brands will be used...The racing engines are highly modified and run lots of nitro....Thjey are turning close to 11,000 rpm in the air....
Converted industrial engines?? Ever see a Zenoah twin chainsaw?? Never happen...The cases are made just for the twin, which uses G62 coils and magneto. The carb is a Walbro, just like 99% of all the other engines..They are no more "industrial "than any other engine that uses off-the shelf components...R C ...

According to the Horizon web site a Gt 80 comes in at 7.7 lb. That's a tad on the heavy side. A 3W 100 is around 7LB. A ZDZ 80 single is around 5 lb.with muffler, battery, ignition plus it makes more power.

I'm surprised no one took you to task on the weight of your airplane. The Z-445 and others of that size are designed for 33%-scale planes that are normally in the 22-28lb range. Your 35lbs puts you close to the 40% scale that usually come out in the 42lb range.

Most of the 40%'ers are running 150cc or better engines.
