I broke in the engine according to instructions but now im having a slight problem. The engine sounds good, starts easily and all.

I had running great then it was time to refuel. It died at full throttle (break in instructions said to). When I refueled, and started it at idle, it starts ok, but when I try to open the throttle beyond 3 notches or so, the engine slows and sputters and eventually stops. The strange thing is that when I pump the throttle up to about 1/2 or 3/4 the engine sputters a bit and then revs up. When I throttle down and try to throttle back up, the same thing....

Suggestion? Too rich? To lean? hmmmm

New engines often need the lowspeed needle or the lowspeed airbleed adjusted. They often stumble and die on throttle up until that adjustment is fine tuned.

Look into the booklet that came with the engine and read about how to adjust the lowspeed.

Ok, Ive not touched the low speed cause according to the manual if it starts and idles fine without dying and a quick pinch to the fuel doesn't change the engine speed, its good....

Prolly written in chinese originally but rewrittien for SPanglishan.

Ill tinker with the idle screw tomorrow.

There is an interaction berween high and low speed needle. Pull the fuel line from the carb hook up a piecing of fuel line tubing
to the carb close the throttle all the way Barrel closed turn in the low speed needle all the way tiill closed blow thru the tubing slowly open the low speed needle till you hear a hiss you should be close martin

Does the engine run fine after it warms up and does it get over this problem after you get it to full throttle a few times?

Could be the crankcase loading up with too much fuel at idle. This would probably mean your low speed is set too rich. What plug are you using?

That is basically true, thiing is there is a healthy "BUT" in there. There are many factors and conditions involved in setting the low end. if you just leave as is,well you have a 50/50 chance and I highly doubt it is set properly for your area.

I just kinda hate the manual cause it gives a full page and a half on how to set the high end, and a single paragraph on how to set the low end. Im really depending on the community here. First what I will do is try to close the idle screw and then blow into it until I hear a "hiss". Ill crank it from there and then try turning it richer / leaner depending on how the engine performs and how smooth the transaction is between idle and full throttle.

Zephirus79,

When you set the low end, leave the carburetor open just a hair.Stick a flat toothpick down the throat and close the throttle on it, that will keep the throttle barrel open about the right amount. Hook a piece of fuel line to the carb inlet nipple and blow on it while opening the low end screw, when you hear air hissing through the carburetor stop opening it and you should be within 1/8 to 1/4 turn of being adjusted right. If you get a little lucky it will be right on.

You can use the pinch test to fine tune it, but remember,at idle you will have to hold the "pinch" longer before you will see any resultant change in the way the engine responds.

Regards,
doubledee
