I've got a new bipe stick plane designed by Naruke. You should see the finishes that the Japanese put on these things.

I tried the 09 and 11 sequence proposals with it and it was effortless.

Bring it.

Looking for more help again.....

Scott,

I think I have the axi 5330 approximated, but I do not have a dimensioned print or sketch for the motor mounting plate....the scanned file you tried to send did not come through....for some reason shows up on my puter as a blank page in word....??? If anyone can help or direct me to help, it would be much appreciated.

I'm also wondering if the prop mounts directly to the small boss on the front end of the motor?...seems like a small diameter...am I missing something?

The axi firewall should tab in just like the original, but will be located right behind the axi.

Thanks,
Mark

p.s. The e-version stick plane will have extra long gear.

After searching on the e-pattern forum a bit I found a pic with a mount. I also see a prop adaptor that I do not think I have drawn on the front end of the motor....still need real dimensions to get it right.

Hi Mark,

I will try to rescan the mounting info and send.. There are two ways to mount the motor.. On is nose ring mount and you slide the 12mm shaft over the smaller shaft with 2 allen screws. or the other way is to back plate mount which with your plane I would think would be better.. I would make out of 2mm carbon plate, and you can mount it further back from the nose.. I will get some pics and send them thru RCU and your private email.. By doing this way the prop shaft is bolted to the outter can with some samll screws..

What do you think about a honeycomb wing and carbon tube and such?

Keep in touch.

Scott,

Thank you. Maybe I modeled the axi wrong on the back....I drew two sets of bolt circles on the back of the motor. The outer one was a tight fit at the 44mm diameter. Is it just the inner bolt pattern that is supposed to be on the motor? Then the both the inner and outer bolt patterns are on the aluminum adapter plate that your standoffs screw into?

I assume the outer pattern of holes in the adapter plate are threaded and your long standoffs shown in your pic have a threaded stud type end that then screws into the adapter plate?

We should be able to simply position the firewall behind the adapter plate that is mounted to the back of the motor.....?

I got a chance to get back on the computer and play a bit. I added in an AXI firewall, but right now it is directly behind the motor without any sort of adaptor plate. If an adaptor plate with grommet type mount would be better, I will need to move the firewall back a touch and add the proper bolt pattern for the adaptor plate.

I can also later add some gussets that will match the curvature of the fuse side and mate to the axi firewall for a great deal of added strength.

I did not put in any lightening holes at this time...but that is easy to do at a later time.

Ducting should not be a big issue if thought about carefully. The cheeks could even be moved forward and enlarged if necessary to add inlet air.

I found dimensions for the C50XL and made a simplified model to see how it would look. Obviously lots of room. The bolt pattern located at the front of the gearbox would actually mate up with the back surface of my F2 former. This former could be re-done and made from something much stronger with the front bolt pattern laser cut directly into it. A new, rear firewall support can also be added.

Hey Mark,

Any news or updates on the kit production or the engine installation we were discussing?

Mark,

I'm sorry I have not updated anything on this thread lately. However, I have not been completely lazy. I have built a cnc foam machine. I am now working out all the profile programs for the Pentathlon . As slow as things seem, I'm actually on schedule for my mid to late Jan. release. I still have a good bit of work to do to get the foam parts all programmed and get a signigicant amount of stock cut up ahead of release. Should have this done within two weeks. As you can see by the picture of the foam test cut, I'm trying a few things with the foam machine.....not sure yet if all these cuts will work out properly....if not, the wing section will be solid. The bottom turtle deck cut came out beautifully and right on size. When I get everything in order and ready to go, I will make a note here on RCU and update the insightrc website.

As for the solid modeling:
Sorry I have just not had time to switch gears and model the motors (electric and gas) that I have requests for. I do have a more accurate model of the hacker started (thanks JAS).

My prototype Pentathlon now has about 20 flights (6 with a 160DZ) and is starting to feel really comfortable. I still do not have any mix programmed. I need a calm day to add a touch of aileron to rudder, but it still looks like no elevator to rudder mix will be needed at all. I am also waiting on a new scale to re-weigh with the YS installed.

Two other prototypes are still in the build process. One will be electric and we should see more on that soon. The other will be YS and we may see a pic or two of that build soon too.

Regards,
mark

Mark,

Thanks for taking time to update us, I understand you must be swamped right now. I look forward to seeing a kit in the flesh and seeing it come together on my table.
