i know this sounds stupid but is there something like a drill bit or something to stick down in the gap and close the gap up against it to make sure its 1mm

1mm is not exact, it could be more or less, i would say open it just enought to see an opening, try to start, if it tries and dies then open a little more, if revving too high then close it a little.

no, sounds like you may have broke a plastic piece in the controler that holds the antenna mast, you may be able to fix it if you take it apart.

Sounds like the perfect excuse to get rid of that stock POS and get a new Futaba system...

the only time thats happened to me is when I start my engines with the plug loosened and I then forget to screw it back down tight. "pop!" haha. Are you sure its nipped up nice and tight? Got the washer there? You really should screw them down really tight because they will vibrate loose. I'd say thats all thats happened in your case.

Middle column, second row. Order 2...

Oh yeah - we like to refer to that as the DEMONIC SPUR GEAR FROM HELL...
No, really though, it's not the spur gear's fault. It's the damned out-of-round clutch bell! Read my post on replacing the stock CB with an HPI H/D (hardened steel) 18tooth - http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_4982701/tm.htm Stock is 16t. Too much torque, not enough top end. 18t will give you the best of both worlds...
