Hi.

I am new to lipo and i want to buy a smart charger that can charge the batteries fast, i also want it to be user friendly if possible.

I dont know which charger will suit my needs.
For now i am using 230mah 15C 2 cell packs. Maybe in later time i will use bigger packs for bigger helis.

A charger can act also as a balancer?

Thanks.
Mike

Mike-

Check this charger out:

http://www.commonsenserc.com/product_info.php?cPath=38_29&products_id=185

It is a balancing charger.. It will balance while it charges.. Not all chargers will do this.. I am currently running 3 of these chargers and love them.

Also, being a newbie to Lipo's, I would offer some advice and say you should read this: http://www.commonsenserc.com/page.php?page=battery_education.html it will provide some decent basic knowledge of lipo's..

If we can do anything for you at CSRC, please don't hesitate to ask.

Jeff

Thanks.
I noticed to balance a battery pack, the battery must have two leads, this made me a bit confused because my batteries have one lead with the tiny white molex plug. How it can be balanced? It can be done just by putting the charge leads on the general charging port?

I saw the serial and parallell wiring, how i can know if the packs are in parallel or series?

If you packs only have 1 lead, then they will be hard to balance...

Most new pack makers, and all of our packs, come with a balancer plug on them.

With our charger, and the proper leads, you would simply plug the battery into the charger and while charging, the charger adjusts the amount of charge per cell..

What type packs do you have? You should be able to tell if they are in parallel or series by looking at them..

Tram, thank you for the reply.

This is the link of my batteries, the black wire goes to the bottom pack and the red to the upper.
http://www.precisionheli.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=m803&Category_Code=Batt

The battery has the male plug, i have the leads with the female plug which i suppose i can put on your charger.

Mike,

Our charger will charge them the same, if they are in series or in parallel.

Yes, they can be charged with our charger.. Depending on how many cells are in the pack, will depend on how they will need to be charged.. Sounds complicated, but it is not.

Jeff, if i understand right i just put and screw the wire leads that i have into the general charging port. Correct?
My leads have 1 red and 1 black wire.

In this way can i charge two 2 cell packs at the same time?

And last, how i will know where to put each wire of the leads?

Sorry for the dummy questions.

Your reply is appreciated.

Mike-

I am not sure what you mean by "put and screw the wire leads"

Also, the pack will not charge multiple packs at a time, unless they are of same capacity and cell count, then you *COULD* charge them as 1 big pack.. IE 2 - 3S 2100 packs wired in series and charged, but I wouldn't really reccomend that..

Go to the website address listed in my signature and do some reading..

It will answer alot of your questions..

Also, a very good link is here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=209187

No sweat on the questions!

Jeff, thanks for the reply.

I will try to explain what i mean by saying "put and screw the wire leads". My leads have bear wires, so the side with the bear wires will go in the green port, correct? And i assumed that there are screws on the port so that they keep the wires in place.

I hope that soon i will get all things clear.

Regards,
Mike

Ok,

Now I see what you are saying.. Yes, you have the basic idea down..

This charger is designed as a balancing charger, however, with a little forthought, those packs with no balancing leads can get charged with it and it also attempts to balance them via the input charge to each cell..

I didn't think it would do this, until I plugged a 2S pack into it with an adapter I made and set the charge to 1.2 amps and it adjusted the amperage to each sell and balanced them..
