Mine is still not flying.

Got my replacement wing, which is fine so is the aileron, but the flap is warped 4mm from one end to the other.
I don't believe my bad luck with this model, I've never had any problems with Sig products before.
Anyway, I've contacted Kavan again (a week ago) and still not heard back.
I'll give them a reminder tomorow, they've been very helpful so far.

Still, I've got a dummy radial to work on in the mean time.

If all else fails, I think the flap you have can be salvaged. I would try weighting it down straight then use your covering iron to shrink the covering tight to hold it in the correct position. Also, when you place it in the wing with the hinges fully seated it might straighten out as well?????????????? Good luck.

Thanks for the advice, but I've already tried that and it made no difference at all.

The main spar at the leading edge of the flap, which has a section of 10mm x 17mm, has bowed along the span.
It's too thick to straighten without taking all the covering off, then clamping and steaming and even then it could twist out again.
It would be easier to make another one.

I don't mind doing a bit of balsa bashing, but this is not a cheap model and I expect it to be built straight.

I have to say though, this is not typical of Sig in my experience, as I've never had any problems at all with any of their products before.
My Rascal was faultless and it's not often you can say that of an ARF.

No worries,

Sig have a good reputation for customer service. I'm sure it'll get sorted.

On a more cheery note, here's a mod you might fancy trying;

Draw around the bottom of the windshield with a fine felt tip pen.
Remove the windshield and cut just inside the line with a sharp blade. (remove pen line with solvent).
Use the covering you've removed as a template to cut a new piece from black 'Tex' covering.
I also cut out a piece for the control panel using a piece of card as a template.

Easy to do and looks good.

They slide onto an aluminum main spar and held in place with a socket head bolt. There is also an aligning wooden dowl at the aft portion to aid in keeping things straight. See the attached photos. It really is a good system. SIG likes the flat blade main spar, but you could do the same thing with a carbon fiber or aluminum tube.

I like it! I've only just started with the cockpit by covering the instrument panel (photo attached) with mahogany verneer. The instruments are on order and I'll add a pilot when I find a suitable one.

On the plans I'm using two aluminium tubes are used.
I like the bolt SIG uses, the head of which is then inside the fus, instead of outside.
The plans I'm building from show a 90 degree bracket mounted to the outside of the fus, so that a bolt can be screwed upward into the wing. But you can then see this from the outside. Seeing that I want to do a good sclae job, I might opt for the same solution as SIG has done with the bolt.
It would however mean that the root rib can then not be made of balsa I think.

If you will look carefully at the root rib in my photo, you can see that it is laminated with 4mm balsa and 3mm hard plywood. The plywood provides the strength necessary for the wing root and the blind nut for the bolt. Cheers.

Did anyone use a gasser 20 or 26?? ... Or did I miss it? There was some talk of it early on but then no one seemed to followup. Is there a problem putting a gas engine in the WACO?

I think someone used a Zenoah .26, but I started to doubt it too.
I'd love to know as I'm still pondering on this decision too.
