Same problem with mine.

I was going to try wax (stops drawers sticking on furniture).

My right wing was fine. The left wing wouldn't go on more than 2 inches. I ended up tapering the face of the bar down on my disc sander... it's still a snug fit.

Sounds like yours may have been a little tough to deal with, but I sure don't want the other extreme. A tight fit is a good thing.

Not meaning to seem critical on this design, but.... how are you guys managing the wing removal on this one?

The two upper wing panels pull off the wing joiner blade by sliding outward, the one-piece lower wing comes off downward, and the upper and lower wings are attached with interplane struts and flying wires. Seems to me you have to remove a) the flying wires at both ends, b) the interplane struts at both upper and lower wing joints, c) the retention bolts for upper and lower wings.

That's a whole lotta bolts and nuts and screws. Do you guys really go through this every time you set up and break down your Waco SRE, or are you just leaving the wings on all the time? I asked this question once before, early in this thread, but now you guys are buying and flying these in quantity, so maybe I can get a consensus from the group of field users.

TIA,

dgliderguy

I think I've got it down to a science now. My wife refuses to let me use her Yukon to haul my "stinking" airplanes, so that means the wings have to come off to fit in my ancient Toyota. First, with the plane on it's back, the "N" struts (4 bolts) are loosened from the upper wing. Then the flying wires (4 screws) are loosened from the upper wing. Next remove the lower wing with the "N" struts and flying wires attached and place in truck of the car. Turn the plane over and remove the two top wing panels (2 bolts)and place behind the driver seat on floor boards. Finally place the fuselage lengthwise across the rear seat. Reverse the process to assemble at the field. Takes about 15 minutes. Leaving the struts and wires attached to the lower wing is the key for me. It all goes toward a fun day at the field with a bunch of nice guys that always admire the looks of this beautiful plane. I think it's worth it!

Can anyone tell me how the tailplane of SIG's SRE is constructed? Is it built up or just a solid plank of balsa?

Aloha dgliderguy,

I leave the struts attached to the bottom wing as well. Got about 25 flights on her now and it never takes more than about 10-15 mins to get her ready to fly. Once you figure out a system, setup and teardown is a non issue. (except maybe if it starts to rain unexpectedly

Besides, I trying train my dog to help out

I don't use flying wires, to dismantle i leave n struts attached to top wing which store vertical behind my front seat the fuselage length ways and the bottom wing fits under the fus.It" just a matter of what works for you.

Didg,

Have you ever flown your Waco with the RCV 91?

I have.
Just 2 test flights with the warped wing.

The wing has been replaced but unfortunately the flap on the replacement was warped, so I'm waiting on a replacement flap for that, should be here soon though.

Are you wondering about power with the 91 CD?

Didg.

Yes,

I have a RCV 91 CD brand new in a box. I always like the plane and I wondered how it flew with the RCV 91CD.

Dave,

It fits in the cowl completely, sounds great and has more than enough power.

Check out my post from a while back.

Anything else you would like to know, give me a shout.
