I have a Kadet Senior and overall thought the quality was really good. You are right though, it's designed to fly through the air, not hit the ground. Definitely is light weight construction for it's size, but it has held together for me very well, even in very windy conditions.

I also have (well not my own but helped with) a Sig Rascal 110. Construction is very similar in just about all respects. I tried to fly that one through the ground at a pretty rapid speed and destroyed/shattered everything forward of the wing leading edge. What I ended up doing to rebuild it was to piece together the shards of the different pieces and use those as a templates to create all new pieces. I am really satisfied with the result ... you have to look pretty close to see that it was ever crashed.

So I agree that Sig doesn't build tanks, but boy do they fly sweet. Part of that sweetness comes from their light overall weight so I guess you buy that feature by sacrificing tank-like structure. But still, they have plenty of structural integrity for anything you can throw at them in the air.

I would think that buying a crashed anything could be a tough road to plow, no matter what manufacturer, and for the kadet senior, with almost no sheeting on the wing, I could see that it could accumulate a lot of damage quickly.

For what it's worth, the Kadet Senior isn't going to do a lot of fancy aerobatics, but I converted mine to a tail dragger and doing slips on approach to control the decent rate is classic stick and rudder stuff. It has by far the most realistic and sweet looking slips and approaches of any aircraft I fly ... it's almost worth it just to fly really cool approaches. Had mine out on a 15-20 mph windy day and had to walk it out to the runway to fly, approaches were at 3/4 throttle with about 1/2 nose down elevator to make headway against the wind and still decend ... add about a 30 degree gusty cross wind component and I had my hands full. But the kadet sr. is big enough and reacts slow enough that I could stay ahead of everything and really had a blast flying that day.

So I'm not expecting the Sig Waco to be perfect for everyone in all respects, but if it matches what I've seen of other Sig ARF's, I'm expecting something that's substantially better than average ... both in terms of construction and in terms of flying qualities ... the designers at Sig really have managed to tap into how to make an R/C airplane fly sweet.

Curt.

My complaint is with the SIG KADET ARF, my regular Kadet Seniors are great, wood is better in terms of thicker and not as many lightening holes. I've noticed all the ARF's are minimal wood.....very sparse on structure, not more then needed to save cost. My SIG 1/4 Cub was fine. Hopefully the WACO is a winner, I'm sure it will be.

Always been in love with the Waco and know this one will fit in the hanger perfect. Now what to power it with??? I run gas only on all my planes. I just put a G20ei on my 3 year old Sportsman Aviation Waco and love it. It took the place of a OS 91fs and balanced out perfect. I figure a G20 or G26 would be perfect for this machine.

Bad news on availability of the new Waco. I just got an email from SIG indicating the plane has now been delayed until June 15th. I hope none of you guys are in a hurry.

They said the manufacturer has experienced a balsa supply problem and wet conditions in South America have delayed new shipments of balsa. They indicated we could expect ALL ARF manufacturing from China to be delayed because of this issue.

Was really disappointed today. Attempted to order the Waco at my local hobby shop and was told that the plane is on backorder till late May or June. Went to Sig's website and the front page displays the plane and gives you the ability to order the plane. Nowhere does it tell you that the plane is on backorder. I called Sig and was told "everybody does that". In my book that is not good business, they should at least mention the backorder on the order page.

Guys,

It is a shame that the SIG SRE is not out yet. However lets hope the extra time is being spent on getting it correct, unlike Cox with wheel pant brackets that fall apart before you can use them or landing gear that fractures at the lower weld.

Ken and I had a great time at the 2007 AWC Fly-In this past weekend at Creve Coeur Airport near St. Louis, MO. Our reports start on page 113 of the WACO YMF thread in the Vintage and Antique forum. Lots of pictures posted there. Have a look. There was an SRE there in Yellow with Green trim NC 58785 that allegedly belonged to Frank Borman.

My LHS called SIG yesterday, and they indicated it would be in around the 8th of July...my bet is by the end of July. But still waiting anxiously for it.
I plan on a Magnum 1.2fs, and Hitec w/Extreme 2.4 radio.

Hi Guys,

A quick update on the Waco SRE. During our inspection of the kit we found that Sub Bag A that is supposed to be in bag #17 per the instruction manual is actually in bag #20. No big deal, but I thought I would let everyone know.
