Vic,

I'll take one. With 424 and EF1 having single prop rules, these gauges may get hot again.

That is pretty cheap, I think I took most of a day to make mine.  I could have done it much faster with a horizontal mill and a stack of cutters, but had to use a little toolbit and move it over a bunch of times.

I did buy a used one for $50 plus postage.  The face is worn and I don't care for the way the prop holder fits in the sl;ots.  I will cover the face with some type of clear covering and use it for now.  I am on Vic's list for one and will support him if he decides to do a run.  I can always sell this one or give it as a gift.

We have just finished off our first batch of pitch gauges.

These are a close copy of the Prather gauge, which in its self was a copy of a German gauge (either Lenzen or Bartels)

The only part actually interchangable with the Prather gauge is the sliding block.

The base is precision machined on all faces, the graduated plate is laser cut and engraved. The gauge reads indentically to the Prather gauge which was copied.

Priced at £55.00 (so about $80.00)

Any questions just ask.

Not many!!

Production is no problem though, the pricing is not based upon having to large batch runs, rather a JIT structure, where we can do runs as little as 5 units.

So to answer your question, 10

The gauges look so nice, that I am thinking of having one in my office as a technical orniment.

Regards

Barrie

That is a low NMPRA number that you have there with #41, you must have been involved with racing for a long time?

Thanks for your positive comments about our website.

Barrie, those gauges are nice! Here's an idea for a product.. A similar laser etched scale that would be a direct swap onto the old prather units, so folks with worn ones could refresh them.

Not exactly. I've been an NMPRA member for about 7 years but I asked for 41 since it seemed to reoccour other places in my life.
Will you be adding kits and other products to the site?
I would like to see more on your Miss Ashley project.

Fizz, that is a brilliant idea.

Fizz

We will check in the New Year with the laser contractor how well the engraving will go onto aluminium plate.

I did consider making the plates inter changable, however there were some wierd dimensions involved in the Prather plate mounting holes, for example the two screw fixing holes were on a different height from the pivot hole.

Whilst I can see that the pivot hole is fairly well a fixed game, the mounting holes are not, so long as you move them the same amount in the base plate.

I kind of suffer from some kind of OCD to do with things like that. Anyhow that would not effect replacement Prather plates.

Barrie

Yes we will be adding more products, however be aware that the Miss Ashley complies with the English Sport 46 rules, which is for an FAI sized model running a very tame engine, something like the AMA424 Q500 engine setup.

The aim of Pylon Line is to provide a one stop shop for pylon racing needs, we are some way down that road now. We will have alternative Q40 kits which will be North American designs but manufactured in England to reduce costs associated with import duties and transport.

Currently our Q40 kit comes from Lyle in the USA.

We will offer complete hardware packages tailored to each model, so that people do not have to look around for any special equipment, this will also include servo's and other radio equipment as well.

Ihope that gives some idea of where we are going.

Many Thanks for your interest.

Barrie

RE: making laser-etched replacement faces for the Prather Pitch gauge:

When I made the laser cut kits for my full size airplane kit (www.mini-imp.com) we found that the reflectivity of the aluminum made it difficult to cut and would possibly cause damage to the optics of the laser cutter. We solved the problem easily by spraying Dykem Blue layout fluid on to the sheet before cutting. This killed the shine enough to get an effective etch and/or cut. It can be removed easily with acetone. Just saying. BTW, if Vic isn't going to make a small run of them, I'd be interested. I don't have a pitch gauge and would like one.

Gary

I did not think that Vic was making gauges, he was just interested in the replacement graduated scales for the Prather gauges.

Thanks for the tip on the laser etching of aluminium.

If you would like a pitch gauge, we can work out the details and I would be able to ship in the first week of the New Year as the post services in England are crazy through the Christmas holiday period.

Regards

Barrie

Barrie, I really like the idea of a clear plastic faceplate, rather then an aluminum one. The plastic allows light from the back side, which helps when aligning the slide.
Oh, and, by the way your pitch gage is awesome. Certainly worthy of being displayed on anyone's desk.
Would it be possible to have three holes in the faceplate so it could be used on either your baseplate, or a Prather baseplate?

The clear is much nicer than my photocopied one that I made in the 1970's.
