All this Nay saying is strictly speculation at this point. I haven't heard anything from anyone who actually has one of these engines. I based my decision to buy one on a couple of things.

1. I love Saitos, singles, twins, radials, I have them all.
2. The video of the the 50cc 3D plane flying impressed me as to its' power. It should fly a 150 sized Warbird with authority.

I will be putting mine in a Hangar 9 P-51 (the older "Marie" version) that I have had NIB for the last 3 years.

Hopefully I'll be able to post perfromance comments in the Spring. Winter will be here in New England very shortly.

Bob

Meesh,
Closetguy has one and he isn't happy with what he is using it for.
I guess I sould respeak what I have said about the engine....Every engine has a airframe to match....
I just do not have a airplane that would or in the future match this engine....
I have no doubt that the saito gasser will work great in a warbird!!!
Perfect combo IMHO!
I however was looking for a engine that works in a 1,800 sq WA biplane....
For me, the RCS 50vt 4-stroke would be a better fit!....
THe only, and I mean the only reson for trying to find a space for this engine is 2-things....
1. The "look what I have factor"
2. the "I run gas becasue it is cheeper factor"

If you want great sound and more power, a Saito 220 Nitro would work wonders for 200$+ less.
If you want 4-stroke sound, and ylightweight nitro gasser will do the Job!....

Meesh is on the ohter end of the scale!>>>>
A phenonm if you will....
He has the will and the means to afford all the coolest and baddest engines available.....
From saito radials and twins......ect ect....

I wouldn't say that I fit in that catogory but You really have to go with what makes you happy!!!
If this engine is it!,,,, Then by all means do it!!! You only live onece!...

I, on the other hand will go for a Saito 5-cyl radial in the biplane.....
Now, if I could just get my wife to say YES!!!...

Not happening any time soon though,,,,

Justin

Justin,

I agree that something can't be all things to everyone. This engine won't be everything to everyone either. When it comes right down to it. I just gotta have it!

My wife will say to me, "Why do you need another engine?" or "Why do you need another plane?" Like I explain to her, the word "need" for me doesn't come into play. I want it, plain and simple!

In case you're wondering I have the 45cc version of the RCS 50 4 stoke single. I bought mine when Mike Dooley had them for $828.95. Nice engine and it really pushes the air! I've been thinking about putting it in my Hangar 9 150 size P-47. It's a big bird and could use a boost over the MVVS 26CC it has in it now.

Best regards
Bob

Bob,

You are very fortunate to have had/have some really nice engines.....
I am a engine freak..... and will work my way up there.....
torn between the 325 saito and the RCS 50vt to go into my latest plane.....
I just do not think the new saito gas will cut the musturd in the GIant aeromaster....
.....

The "need" explaination is great. Hobbies are not "needs" they are "wants". If someone buys one of these and complains, it's because "they" did not do the homework to find out how much thrust could reasonably be expected and buy accordingly. Everyone wants to blame someone for things not working out as expected. A little homework will go a long way toward not being disappointed. It's a good, solid, reliable engine, by a good company, you just have to use common sense to find the right home for it. Just my two cents.

Disclaimer - I am one of the "I never met an engine I didn't like crowd"

LOL!!

My computer has been down... Little slow to reply...

Seems to be a great combo... Huge surface area and a bi-plane to boot!
Now that the stearman has been disc. from Aero-werks..... it seems like the logical thing to do..
And man got to LOVE THAT price!!! for the GP Aeromaster....

I thought about making a larger cowl to house the 325 Radial in it, but I whink It would be just as nice to
cut the 5-holes for the valve covers, if need be!

the saito 325 will not make you happy in the Giant Aeromaster, not enough power and too much weight

Sorry Justin, I forgot about the Aeromaster.

My Buddy bill put an OS Sirius FR300 radial on his. He finished the firewall and left the cowl off.

An engine like that needs to be shown off! No Cowl!

If you're going to put a cowl on it, go with the RCS 50VT

Woo Hoo!

I picked my FG-36 up at lunch time at the LHS.

I had ordered it a while ago and I guess I got in on the first batch that came in!

Nice engine!

I believe the saito 5-R pulls about the same as the Fuji 43EI.... and that has been a great combo for that plane....
Also, the aeromaster weights the same as the Aero-werks Strearman and has MORE W.A. And that plane combo was perfect!

Perhaps you are talking about the Giat Aeromaster KIT, and not the ARF?
There was a review in MAN and they used a 1.60FX OS with great report.

Meesh has one and he is going to install it in the same airframe, so he must know something good about the combo!

Sorry, to pull this off subject.....

Cheers....
