Well see, the 3 amp rating is the switching rating, not the continuous current rating. IOW the contacts are rated to make or break a circuit of 3 amps current. The engineer will use a switch with a higher switching current than the circuit will carry, for safety and longevity's sake. So the circuit average current is going to be lower than the switching current.

Anybody has any adverse thing to say about this engine before i hit the pay button?

I have a NIB nitro saito 220a- is it worth converting instead? I see a new carb, inlet manifold, thrust washer with magnet and pickup sensor. Are the innards the same?

A fourstroke fires every 2 revolutions , does that mean you need a special ignition system?

No special ignition requried. It will just fire on the exhaust stroke as well as the compression stroke, with no harm done since there is no fuel in the cylinder to combust.

Thanks very much! Another thing learnt. I was thinking of using an aft market ignition system if the nitro 220a can be converted without great cost.

Hot off the press:

Saito FG36 tests:

Total weight (engine, mount, ignition, prop nut and washer) 61.5 oz.

(after 30 minutes run time)
APC 20-8 7100 RPM
APC 18-8 7450 RPM

Idle at 1500 RPM or less

90db(a) at 25' at full RPM

Hand starts easily, but I couldn't get the carb to prime by hand (no manual choke)

Use electric starter first start of the day, then hand start from there on out

Ignition draws about 340 ma at full speed (no huge battery needed)

And it sounds GREAT!!!

Dick,
It is possible that you had a carb that had a weak gasket for fuel draw, so it might not be the case for all....
It would be nice to have a choke though?

Just in!.....

Great planes Giant Super chipmunk!
(I think they are disc. it)

220$ Delivered!!!!!!!!!!

This is the perfect plane for this engine, and the plane is a real buet.....
A zdz40 balances this plane w/o balast.
Should be no issues balancing with the saito gasser either.....

I just put my order in...

Dick (or anyone else)
would those numbers be equall to a 30-32cc gas 2-stroke?

a 32 gas magnito says...
APC 18X8 7900 RPM in the manual......

I guess it is hard to speculate (as in the Videos that I have seen, it looks much more powerfull than a 26cc gas 2-stroke engine)
not figuring in 4-stroke torqe and all that jazz, but swinging a prop, is still swining a prop!

My Saito gas 36,,with a 18-6, turns about 7900 and lotsa power. have it installed in my GP Pitts Special and it really hauls a--, and uses very little gas and starts on first spin of the starter. love it

Whats the best prop size and optimal rpm range for this engine? I see 18x6 and 18x8 being thrown about. Anyone has comparable figures for a similar weight engine like the spe40 etc. ?
Is the exhaust note similar to the nitro version or quieter?
HP figures quoted seem to be quite close to the equivalent two strokes.

Great to hear!.....
May I ask what the plane weights?
Justin

If you do a search for the Gas saito, there are a couple of videos on them.....
The sound is almost same as the 220 nitro.... From what I can tell from the vids...
