Greetings Fellow Corsair Pilots,

I finished "ARF Bashing" my hanger 9 corsair a few months ago. Here are some picts of the model.

This is an F4U-1C, a fairly rare bird, only 200 were made. The main difference is in the armorment, 4 x 20mm cannon. These WW II cannon were longer than the Korean war versions and thus protruded well beyond the leading edge of the wing.

I modeled this plane after Lt. Joe Robbins (VF-85) flying from the USS Shangra La. He scored 5 kills during the war, 3 of them in the F4U-1C. A qoute from him on one of the -1C kills:

"I pulled up making a left turn, then a right and got him on a head-on. He was about 800 feet ahead of and slightly below me when I fired. This makes an easy shot because you can aim ahead of him; he would run into the bullets, without deflection, just a high-to-low head-on shot. I gave it a long burst. I didn't see the bullets strike. I just pulled the trigger and he blew to hell - a big ball of fire."

Enjoy!

Great job ! Its good to see a Corsair done in a different scheme just by doing a little research. Well done .
( p.s. does Greely , Co. still smell like cow poop ? )

Thanks! I always like making something you can talk about as well as fly.

Greely does indeed still smell, somewhat. In the 13 years I've lived in Fort Collins there has been a noticable decrease as industry and neighborhoods have developed.

I built a Topflight Giant Scale Corsair about 10 years ago. The plane weighed approximately 38 lbs and was a bit smaller than the Ziroli Corsair. It was powered by a Saito 450 R and flew extremely well. I personally don't think you'll have a problem with your plane. Last year I completed the build of a 1/4 scale Corsair built from Don Smith plans. The damn thing weighs 60+lbs and is powered by Moki radial. Once off the ground, it flies like a dream.

A full scale, with a 2 blade prop? That's not a full scale, that is Luke's masterpiece 1/8 scale Royal F4U-1D Corsair!

For those that didn't get it...I was kidding about the full scale. I know the real one had a four blade prop. It was meant as a compliment.
