Hey guys,

Well I have been doing some reading and am already aware of the top 3 software programs out there but I am wondering if upgrading to one of those will help.

I purchased a Panasonic PV-GS300 and from what I am told it's suppose to be a pretty good cam... at $599 I would expect it to be

My issue I filmed my buddy flying today, he filmed me and well I am less them impressed with the quality.. but I see so many quality videos out there and I dont think everyone is spending 1200 for an HD cam so what gives?

Currently I am using the standard software and usb 2.0 to pull the video. The software is called MotionDV Studio LE and the instructions so I can pull video using usb 2.0. The output file is limited to 4 types and the best one seems to be .asf

My question is if I upgrade to a firewire card / cable and buy some good software am I going to see a big difference?

Here is a vid I took on Friday of my dog chasing my plane as an example of the quality I am getting.. http://www.djsinergy.com/kasey-vs-rc.asf

any input would be greatly appreciated.

It looks like it is your software, or the settings you used to compress it.

Sinergy,

I actually have almost the exact same camera and I can tell you right now that you can take that MotionDV software and pitch it in the trash because it is junk. If you want to see the real quality of your camera you can plug it directly in to your television and watch the video on there. Trust me, it is the software.

I am currently using iMovie 6 on my Mac but I would recommend you purchase Photoshop Elements or Pinnacle to do your editing and upgrade to firewire. Firewire is higher quality and faster. The quality of your video is also low because of the way you are compressing it. Try using mpeg file format when compressing or divx format because they achieve higher quality at lower file sizes.

I love my camera and I am sure that you will love yours when you get the bugs worked out. Good Luck!

Nathan

GO to this website ...its got everything you'll ever want to know about the PANASONICS GS series and general questions on video editing. I found it shortly after I got my GS250 a coule of years ago and its been invaluable in helping maximise my iinvestment.

makes ure you read the FAQs and what they call 'sticky's which are basically tutorials on how to ie capture videos to PC etc etc

I fail to see what difference firewire is going to make over usb apart from speed. Its all ones and zeros. The file being downloaded off the camera isn't going to be different because a different interface was used.
