Ace in the hole -> Storage charge for long term? (11/28/2006 2:04:50 PM)

What is the best voltage to store these cells at for long periods (the winter)?

Depends on the type of cells and the temperature.

http://www.batteryuniversity.com/partone-19.htm

for A123 cell my guess would be 3.3 volts per cell as that seems to be the voltage that all new cells arrive at.

Thanks for the questions on the batteries. If you are just storing them for the winter there is nothing you need to do. Put them aside and then take them out after the winter. They have an incredibly long shelf life and will be fine if left over the winter.

If you are looking to keep them for storage then 3.3V / cell is what you would need.

please let me know if you have any other questions.

Ok, so if I am reading your post correctly -- six months months or less- just let them be and they will be fine, longer than six months it would be better to store them at 3.3v per cell.

Any importance as to what temperature they are stored at? Room temp or cold? The link that everydayflyer sites above would indicate cold is better, have you found this to be true with these new cells too?

A123-

I take it from your lack of responce that you are uncertain as to the effects of the storage temperature on these cells. I am going to treat them as other lithium cells and go with cold storage for now. When you do get data on this it would be great to hear from you.

Thanks for the info so far.

Hi Ace,

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner, it has been a bit busy around here for the holidays.

Storing them in a cold place would help them keep a bit better.

Please let me know if you have more questions.
