Graphs tell the story fairly well. Top speed about 35 and way to much power for those with a heavy trigger finger such as myself.
Back flips and whellies abound and truch gets airborn on rough areas really fast.

Used righ at 2200 mAh from the pack and the only thing really warm was the motor at 165F (ambient pus approx. 105F)which is still 35F below the recomemded max.

Is that a serious question?

Gearing as stated 14:87. With 20:87 would be closer to 60.

Stock was approx.20, with 15TrunBrushed mod.geared 16:87 approx 25 and to fast for my backyard but also resulted in blistering hot ESC and notor.

Present setup cranks out 30-35MPH,solid 350-400 watts with peaks near 700
My son's track in our back yard has approx. 40Ft. striaghtaways. How fast can you drive your over 35 MPH Rustler on a tight track?

My mamba 5700 for my pede should be here any day and I have a question for you.

How would say the A123 Two 3s1p starter kit compare to the MaxAmps 3s2p 8000mah pack?

I mainly bash around the yard and on weekends visit local dirt tracks / gravel pits for bashing. Run time is very important.

Would I be happy with the A123 system?

Well 8000 mAh is a lot more than 2300 mAh for sure.
mAh is capacity (runtime) so the MaxAmp is the runtime winner.

The big advantages for the A123 cells are 15 to 20 min. charging. Very durable, will not vent with flames, should last much longer than LiPolys.

To me changing batteries is not a big deal. With two A123 packs you can charge one while running the other and with many setups be able to run no stop. If you had 3A123 packs then you could be sure of non stop running right up to the point that you toast your motor or ESC.

If I run my Rustler really hard for 8 minutes striaght the motor reaches 165F in 60F ambient. As 200F is the max I would suggest a cool down period from time to time.

If I run on a small ,tight track(40ft. striaghts) I get 15 min. on a 3S A123 pack.

I purchase DeWalt 36Volt Cordless Power Tool packs on E Bay for approx. $100-$115 delivered. This means a 3S A123 pack cost me approx. $35 for the cells, power leads, connector and balancing leads/connector.

I am leaning towards the Two 3S1P starter pack currently. One reason I was leaning towards the MaxAmps 8000mah 3s2p pack was it could handle the continuous 100a draw that the Mamba 5700 can pull. Can the 3s1p packs from A123 handle the power draw the mamba can pull?

The A123 pack as a 1P can handle 100A peaks(burst).
The MaxAmp 8000 most likely is a 4P pack (could be 2P) 2000 mAh capacity cells is parallel to get the 8000 mAh total capacity.

100 A continues would be extremely short run times.
8000 mAh = 8Ah
8Ah * 60 (min. ) = 480/100 = 4.8 minutes run time.

Look at my graph. Right at 8 minutes of hard running with 65-70 A peaks but the average is just over 18A.

You mentioned running in yard. Well my yard is rather large and even with 14:87 gearing which limits top speed to just over 35 MPH it is extremely to run WOT for more than a fe seconds.
35MPH is 51 feet per second. Not only that but even small bumps, etc. will cause the Rustler to become airborn and flip at these speeds.

Also from prior post

While the Speed controller maybe able to handle 100A cont.there is no way the motor would not exceed the 200 F max. temp.

The MaxAmps pack I was lookin at was the 3s2p 8000mah pack.

I think I've decided to get the 3s1p starter kit from a123 and grab a Pyramid PS14KX 12amp power supply for just over $30 on ebay.

I should be fine with the slightly reduced pack runtimes being that the quick recharge will ultimately end up with a better overall runtime.
