They're soft and not worth it.

They cost 4 times as much as normal steel. Which means for a full set you could have bought 3 more sets of tyres, or 3 more gallons of fuel for practice (that would imoprove your lap times).

hi
a freind of mine bought a hyper 7 with titanium screw set fitted
after 1 day of medium bashing it had snapped the heads off 5 of the 8 holding the diffs on
front and rear and 2 of the radio tray screws had snapped as well!
and you try drilling them out to fit new ones, a pain this no worth it .

I race 1/18 scale electric on-road on a scale track (28in lanes (scale to 46ft) on a painted surface that makes the cars handle a lot like the real full scale racers). The cars weight 14.5 ounces and if you notice 1-2 ounces it will be on this track with these cars. The mini cam which I drove yesterday weighs a total of 1.5 ounces I think and its bairly noticable. The car doesn't feel as nimble but its no slower then the other cars on the track. We run stock motors and 4 rechargable AAs so are also running low power but the weight still didn't have much effect to make you lose races.

The point is with those screws you'll only be saving 1-2 ounces off your buggy and on an 1/8 buggy there is noway your going to notice that much weight. Now if you went from top to bottom of the buggy and reduced the weight of every little thing then it does deffinatly add up so why not put ti screws in as well.

For the cost of it you're better off just getting stainless steel.

The only thing titanium that is really of benefit is maybe turnbuckle and upper arm linkages. If memory serves me correctly, titanium is relatively flexable and will "bend" back into shape to a certain extent.

How about you make a magnesium chassis?
(anyone that has experimented with magnesium in chemistry class will get this)

Magnesium can catch on fire if you give it the right spark can't it? I know small flakes of it can but I'm not sure if a solid chassis could (never had chemisty).

i think you have it confused with lithium, lithium ignites in contact with water, magnesium will just corrode but will burn a bright white flame if you get it hot enough. they use magnesium on F1 cars to reduce weight, but they mix it with other metals to increase the ignition point & make it more stable.

as for stainless screws i've bought them & hate them, they're too soft. the best screws i've found are the stock Mugen ones. a lot of "Titanium" screws are just titanium coated which doesn't add any extra strength & only shaves a fraction of the weight off. if you want good ones you'll have to pay for it & they're not cheap.

just my opinion.

Correct. I'm not sure as to the validity, but I've heard some horror stories about street BMXers catching Primo magnesium pedals on fire.
