I can't believe I missed this thread. I have a BL Pede. MM5700 and all the basic mods. Can't believe how fast it is for an electric! I'll post a few pics of it in about a week. My camera is being borrowed at the moment. I have a few pics I could scan though. BRB.

Haha..Is that a lunchbox van body you got there? I dig it!

Ahh, I see...it is a LUNCHBOX! I remember those from 15 years ago. They're cool. I had a Blackfoot or two in my time. Hey how fast have you had your MM5700 Pede?

yea, that's my lunchbox. i have done some modifications to it...it's pretty sweet. you know, they re-released the lunchboxes & now include an ESC. also, they re-released the blackfoot. it's now the "blackfoot EXTREME" you might check 'em out. they're both pretty cheap.

as for speed...ah man, i have no idea. i don't have any way to measure it. i'm selling it now, so we'll never know.

HOWEVER, it sure felt every bit as fast as my revo.

I have the MM 5700 and FLM Ext.Chassis w/Ext.Arms. I keep breaking drive shafts. The yolk comes apart. I currently use Revo shafts/metal yolks but the Revo's u-joint is too big so I have to shave down the axle. I'm still breaking yolks!! The Revo's yolks holding up find but the stub axle(metal) snaps. I have to bend the stub slightly to get the Revo's u-joint in.(after shaving) What are you guys running? I'm so tired of hearing "snap". I want something that will NOT BREAK all the time! Every run I break either the stock slider yolk or if running the Revo's axle the metal stub axle snaps! Please help!

sorry holmes....i never broke anything....but then again, i never drove it long enough to.

maybe it's time to get some cvd's? then again, maybe there's a problem that you're missing causing the drive shafts to fail prematurely?

Yep, MIP cvd's modded with shrink wrap over the yolks to keep the pins from falling out should do the trick. You can also put shrink wrap over the universals (the part that swivels) to keep the dirt out.

Here's a few pics of my BL Pede:

What CVD's are you using? I have a set for the stock A-Arms, they limited suspension travel, went back to sliders. I have the FLM Ext.A-Arms and they(CVD's) were too short. Thanks for your replies!

The stock universal drive-shafts are pretty strong. Mine are still holding up even under the power of the MM5700. It sounds like you're slipper is set too tight. Do you run it locked? That'll wreck the drive-shafts like crazy. I set my slipper just a hair past 1/4 turn out from fully tight. It's more like 1/3 turn out. You should hear it slip (whine) for about a half a second at WOT from a standstill, or if you go WOT while slightly rolling (5 mph). If you have your slipper set like that, it saves the gears and drive-shafts from wear and damage at WOT take-offs, yet still allows rolling wheelies at 15-20 mph on 6-cells. Hope that helps.

That's a neat trick. If I ever have problems with my stock drive-shafts, I'll try that. I have an extra set of stockers to replace them with when the originals wear out though.

Hey, does anyone with the mm5700 in their pede have high motor temps? I ran mine at the college parking lot yesterday. I was doing some WOT speed runs, but mostly I was only at WOT after I started out slowly with only a few rolling wheelies. After running it about 15 minutes, the motor temps were 190+ degrees F measured with emissivity set on 77E with Duratrax temp gauge. It never got up to 200 dF, but I think that it could possibly go up that high depending on how I drive it. I'm geared 16/86, and I'm using a 6-cell IB3600 stick pack with Deans for connectors. The ESC got up to about 127-128 dF (77E), and the battery was 147 dF (95E) at the end of the run. My slipper is set correctly at a just barely over 1/4 turn out from fully tight. Outside temps were in the high 80's to low 90's. Can someone check out my settings and tell me what I can do to lower the temps a little without gearing down? I don't think my gearing is the problem because I'm running it on-road. Also, there is no binding in the drive-train or wheel bearings. Thanks for any help.

Here's my Mamba Max ESC Castle Link settings:

Brake/Reverse type - Proportional w/o reverse
Brake - 30%
Drag Brake - 10%
Punch Control - 80%
Start Power - Low
Motor Timing - Lowest
Voltage Cut-Off - No voltage cut-off
Motor Type - Brushless

I'm using the stock (default) throttle/brake curves.

EDIT: I got rid of my over-heating problem by making a few changes to the esc settings, while still using 16/86 gearing. After some research I found that with the stock 4.625" Talon tires and 16/86 gearing, the motor efficiency is closer to 100% than any other gearing. More efficiency = less heat. So I knew there was no improvement to be made there. By disabling the drag brake to 0% (default setting), and setting the punch control to 100%, I knocked off 13-14 degrees F at the motor after doing 15 minute WOT speed runs with an IB4200 6-cell. Only braking to turn around and bring the 'pede back the other way. I did the same exact thing with my old settings (listed above) while using an IB3600 6-cell, and the temps were higher. No other changes were made except I dropped the charge rate from 4.5A to 4A. Outside temps were only +/- 5 degrees different on each day I ran the test. Hopefully this helps someone.

Update! I installed an Integy heatsink on the motor and lowered my gearing a bit to 16/90. Also, I disabled the drag brake and raised the punch control to 100%. I did 20 straight minutes of WOT speed runs on asphalt (only stopping to check temps), and my motor temp was exactly 170 degrees, ESC was 111 degrees due to airflow over the esc heatsink , and my 6-cell SMC IB4200 only got up to about 135 degrees. I was also running the 2.8 Talons. Outside temp was 90+ degrees and very humid. Glad I got it under control.
