Im thinking about going BL but i cant decide between the Velineon and Novak XBR sport (8.5 or 10.5)? I've got 7cell nimh 4200 mah batteries to run it. (mamba is too expensive since i only have a $140 credit at towerhobbies and i need to buy aluminum idler and wheelie bar)

Also, what kind of run times (avg) will i get with these motors with my 7cell 4200mah batteries? And what speeds with 19/86 gearing? Compared to my 15T speed gems

Thanks!

We've gone with the Novak 10.5 (posted a thread when deciding on which to go for), installed but not yet run as the trans is toast. Will post my comments shorty.....

Rich

Nice, do you have a link to that thread? And what batteries are you gonna be using? (assuming its in a pede?)

Reviving an old thread here. I just got my 4600kv Sidewinder setup installed in my upgraded XL-5, put the first run on it at lunch today. I'm running the same 16t pinion and 90t spur I had with an Orion SV2 17T motor previously, on the same 6 cell GP3300 packs. Wow! What a difference. The truck is quite a bit faster now and has the juice to do wheelies from a rolling start. Low speed control is off somewhat from brushed, but not much of an issue the way I drive this truck. I've got to fine tune the settings a bit, using defaults across the board at present. What gearing are others using with the 4600? Searching didn't do much good. It seems a bit on the warm side after running in asphalt and grass, but not sure if its any hotter than the brushed motor would be.

Just saw this thread. Here are some pics of my XL-1 pede that I made brushless with a cheap $110 3300Kv brushless setup. This pics was with ONLY the brushless system modded. Since then, I have done several hop-ups totaling over $580. Some of these hop ups include:

- 3300 Kv brushless
- rear vxl links
- steel diff
- steel idler
- front vxl bearing carriers
- rear rpm vxl bearing carriers
- 5x11x4 bearings (replaced all bushings/bearings with new fresh ones)
- COMPLETE vxl axles
- VXL slipper
- Wide pede (rear arms up front/Tmaxx 105mm links/vxl steering links)
- Aluminum shock caps
- rpm arms (rear all around)
- Cen DSX digital AM transmitter
- Futaba S3305
- RPM front bumper

There is probably much more but this is all I could think of at the moment.

Here are the batteries that I run with the brushless pede. I know I took a chance. I bought tenergy propel cells off all-battery for $5.99/cell (with 12% discount) and built them into sxs using deans 12 ga wire and deans battery bars. I really like them.

ive bought myself a xl-5 pede with an all steel gearbox.
it was jsut a roller when i got it.
but now if my order from tower comes in this week it'll be almost VXL spec (and fully when the second order comes in).
but i was looking over maxamps site at lipo's for christmas...
it is actually cheaper to get a 10,000mah 2s lipo than a 8,000mah as the 10k lipo does not fit in the chassis.
solution??
make a chassis!!
i cant afford a FLM one and i just LOVE working with aluminium so i'll make it myself.
just get some 4mm aluminium (a higher grade) and get to work marking out every hole and lightening hole.
it'll have to be longer and a little wider to carry the 10,000 lipo but from what i hear longer is a good thing...

and can somone point me to where i can get the wide pede conversion, or is there a number of ways using parts of other cars??

the lipo is a long way away as i had a go at a stock VXL last saterday (ALL DAY!!) and i'ts hard for me to even keep it under controll on just a 4500 7cell elite pack

I'm not really sure. I took out the stock motor pulled the pinion and slapped it on the Mamba and way it went. I will check it tonight when I get home. The last time he ran it the idler gear had half of the teeth stripped off of it. So it now has the steel idler gear and soon will have the VXL slipper clutch. I added the wheelie bar to it to keep him from flipping it on it's top.
