What pattern plane would be complete without mega-fillets? I've glued in the wooden bases, upon which I'll later add the epoxy-microballoon mixture. I think I might have got a little too aggressive with the sizing, considering that this thing is already a bit heavy feeling. But hey, it only has to accelerate downhill and I'm fine!

I spent the week at dad's woodshop trying to get as far as I could on the finish. I had grand plans of getting through the glassing, priming, and even possibly starting the painting. Actually, I spent several days simply filling and sanding the balsa before I even got to the glassing. I did however, get the whole plane glassed with the first tack-coat of finishing resin. I'm about to trowel on the second flow-coat shortly.

Here's an F8 pic I just got from a google search. Just in case you needed any incentive to finish your bird.

I started to trowel on the second coat of finishing resin... I was really surprised to see how little was required to cover the entire side of the fuse. It was less than half of a tiny 3oz mixing cup! I didn't thin this coat so it would flow out better and fill the pinholes.

Yeah, my day job keeps getting in the way. I'm currently troweling on some epoxy over the glass, and I'll upload some pics later.

I troweled on the second coat of resin (not thinned) over the initial tack coat of thinned resin. It's a little bumpy due to some dust that had collected over the surface from not working on it for too long. Hopefully they'll sand out.

Thanks for the compliments... the plane was designed with 90% aesthetics and 10% substance in mind. I started to trowel on the second coat of resin on the wing, starting with the bottom.

I've got the whole thing covered with 2 coats of resin now, and unfortunately the next step is going to require a lot of elbow grease. I've got a shot here of the whole unit so you could see how the proportions are shaping up.

Thanks, here's a few more views showing how the overall lines are looking.

I noticed that there is a slippery residue on top of this Z-Poxy finishing resin... I'm wondering if I should clean off the surface before I start sanding.

I started the process by sanding the resin with some 100 grit to get the sheen off, and to level the surface.

I really shot on the primer thick, then sanded all of it off. I'll do this again for a second time. I couldn't help thinking of "Firefox" when looking at the flat black airframe.

You've designed a classic! This needs to be an MA construction article.
