Tangerine, Pics and Results
Hi All,
This will be the 2nd report of the Tangerine contest, but this time, Pattern.
Practice started on Sunday as soon as Pylon was finished and the course was removed and field put back to normal. Gary Freeman Jr. (fresh of a 2nd and 3rd in Pylon), Blake Hilsen, Steve Homenda and myself (coaching only) were out there putting in some practice flights. I didn't get any pics then.
Today, David, Dustin and Mike Constatine were out there practicing (I was coaching again, tomorrow flying). I did get a couple of pics between helping pilots out.
For all that are coming, forecast for now is for COLD weather. You Northerners coming down, you'll feel like you're home. Us Southerners... we'll be freezing...

Thanks for the pics Jason. I was wondering if anyone could report on how the production model Shinden flew? I see the one shown in your pictures is an electric.

Official... I guess that's Friday. But we're not waiting for everyone to show up. We started on Sunday and haven't stopped.
Dave Stodart joined us today, and everyone from yesterday came back again. Steve Homenda visited with us and took a flight on Mike's Genesis so he could get a little stick time. Looks like another full day tomorrow as well.

PRACTICE???!!! In December, mid-week??? That's CHEATIN'!! And I see you arranged 57 degree weather and 15-20 mph winds on Friday for us out-of-towners.
Heck, it is dark here by 4:45PM, and was very cold and windy this past weekend, and in the 40s this week. We will be rolling in with no practice since Thanksgiving.
Some Southern hospitality you guys have. Oh, I forgot, Florida isn't in the REAL south! LOL!
See ya Friday!
Jon

The cold front has moved in. We were out there practicing yesterday and we watched as the cold front rolled right on in. The wind picked up and the temperture dropped. It wasn't as cold as it is now (50F), but thankfully it will be warming up for the weekend. Don Lowe and Ryan McLaughlin joined us for practice, Steve started to mark up the field with his paint can and someone showed up from out of town (didn't get his name) with a Panacea.
Today I'm sure there will be more people at the field (regardless of cold and wind) but I doubt I'll have a report... I'm staying home and keeping warm.

I just got a message from Jon Lowe and he said it's nice and cold and windy at the field. He said the guys from District 1 were there. I think they arrived last night cause thats when the temps dropped 40 degrees.

Well, I must be a pattern pilot... I went out and flew in these winds and low temps. Here's some pics from today. Steve was running around getting the pilots info so tomorrow wouldn't be such a rush. I was pilot #15.
The group, Gary's Silhouette IV, Mike's Black Magic, Dave's Prestige and sub-fin, Humberto and his Genesis with Steve holding and Blake and his Inspire 60.

I was just thinking while my batteries are charging. Does anyone have any requests for pictures to be taken? If I had a video camera I would take some vids during the contest, but I don't, so pics will have to do. Let me know if there is anything specific you want to see.

Day 1 is in the books. Only one mishap and that was a meeting of Jim Woodward’s Aggressor and Dean Funk's Black Magic V1. Nothing left of either plane.
Wind started down the runway from left to right and moved to in our face by evening. We got 3 rounds in with 37 contestants. By about 10:30 all the heavy jackets were gone, but by 4 they were back. Here are some pics before dinner. I managed to squeeze my Impact and Integral in my Integra (LS) and get to and from the field in one piece.

[sm=shades_smile.gif]Hey Frank-This turned out to be a great day for flying. Although I have many years in ukie-I'm still trying to learn the pattern Actually, I get a little lost without the streamers tied to my plane! Anyway, I had a blast with all the guys-especially both my Sons-most ask question of me today-'Are you really,Jason and David's Dad?' Second most asked question-'Who taught then how to fly-lol! But fun is what it's about-and we had plenty of that.
