all the radio, ignition, fuel cell is in.
the tail wires are on

all i need to do know is install the wing struts.

does anyone have any advice as to a simpler connection system that is more friendly to use in air-field?? (regarding the wing struts)

Status: offline 		Yeah I would keep the struts on for flying! Ecpecially with the motor your using.

I leave my struts attached to the wings. When you slide the wing on the strut fits right in at the bottom.

Status: offline 		As far as strut attachment at the field, I did the same as described in post #1339. Horizon didnt ever have them in stock at the time so, I ordered them through Grainger.

today was maiden.

airplane flew very well.  i was able to go WO throttle, and was not impressed with anything that i would say, wow, this is overpowered.  i would say plane flew just right.

maybe it is that i am using a 3 blade prop 21 x 10, which has less thrust , maybe?
don't know.

anyways, it did just fine. 

had 2 flights with it.

it does not do unlimited vertical with the da 60, just as FYI.  plane weighs wet 18 pounds.

Status: offline 		well, i took her out again, at 6:15 pm.
after having made some small alterations to the plane.

this airplane flies great.

i set my timer for 15 minutes.

i have to tell you all that with the DA 60, i do not see any evidence that this plane is way overpowered.

i flew plane at 1/4 power, and it did great,

however, i did fly with throttle wo, and did loops, rolls, knife edge (barely)

and when plane landed, there was no evidence on hinges, wing tube, or anywhere else of visible damage from this engine.

when i took plane off, throttle was at 1/2 power.

about 40 seconds prior to 15 minutes being up, at which time, the plane must have been 1000 feet high, the engine cut out,

my o my, can that plane glide.

in fact, from that height, i was able to do everything for me to position plane , while gliding, to land, in the usual spot,
so it glided in, and all you could hear was the sound of the air ripping as the bird flew by my and did perfect landing.


i had built a dynaflite ssuper decath, wioth a saito fg 36, and this plane was way underpowered, and it did not fly right.

this plane is way better, granted, i did not build this one, i just put it together.

but, i am very happy with it.

4 flights today!!

Status: offline 		congrats on the maiden!!!  Must be the three blade that tames down the beast nut that engine will only get stronger. Ive see that motor stretch out 50cc airframes out of a hover LOL

Status: offline 		Good choice on the DLE 55. I made the same one. I just put my name on the "pre-order" list for the new DLE55-RA last week at Troy Built Models. I'm going to put smoke on my  RC Guys Super Decathlon and thought  I would need the extra power because of the extra weight.

does anyone else experience this,

i believe it has to do with top wing design

Mine does big time. I think it has to do with being a high wing design. Mine does it to. I did add some rudder aileron mix but it still does it. It's a sport flyer your not going to get away from it

Status: offline 		The new DLE 55RA has a rear exhaust.  DLE also just came out with a new rear exhaust 35cc and a twin 60cc.

i fly with low rates,(rudder, elevator, ailerons)
but i was wondering if i should further decrease the rudder throw on low rates??

Status: offline 		Very nice! I think you have it proped just right for that motor airframe combo. If you went two blade and have your engine tweaked right out that thing will be ballistic!

Status: offline 		Question on hinges. I am at the point at the tail area to start to install the elevators and the rudder. I have read in earlier posts from awhile ago about issues with the hinges. I asked Dan about it and he told me not to worry about it. I mainly scale fly with loops and rolls, inverted flight but mainly scale. So no extreme stuff for me. Using a Saito 220 glow for the power plant on it. Biggest plane I now own and want everything good on it. Same thing I did when I built my 700 size nitro heli. Known issues I wanted to take care of just incase. Though I don't fly hard with it either.

I'd go ahead and use the supplied hinges. I used robart ones but wasn't realy nessesary. The qualitly was just as good. I tried a break test on the original ones and man they are hard to break! The only thing I would change are the aluminum control horns. I would swap them with Dubro ones

On mine, the tail hinges were OK, but I went ahead and swapped them out for Robarts. The aileron hinges were another story, though. They broke apart at the joint with very little effort. Seemed very brittle. Swapped them out, too. Also the horns have a weak spot right where the threads stop. I tested one and it broke off pretty easily. Replaced with another brand, but can't remember where I got them.

Status: offline 		I've had my eye on this RC Guys Super Decathlon for some time now.

I've built all of my other planes now, and I could s-q-u-e-e-z-e in just one more gasser. I'm pretty fond of the Syssa 30CC gassers, I already have two of them. Just one more wouldn't hurt, and I think it would fly this bird beautifully. I know; some will say I should have a 40CC or up in it, but I've researched this bird and it seems to fly sweet with a G26 or CRRC26 gasser on it. Besides, I've set a limit at 30CCs on all birds now.

I haven't heard anybody saying anything too bad about this model, except one guy who called it junk after he stalled it at 50 feet while doing too-slow turns. I did that once with a very similar plane. The plane wasn't junk, the pilot (me) was flying with his brain on vacation. Okay, the plane WAS junk when I got through with it. Maybe that's what the other guy meant, eh?

One thing I HAVE noticed is that nobody uses their wheel pants. What's up with that? A Super Decathlon MUST have wheel pants! Don't they hold up well? Also, how big are the wheels on these?

Thanks, guys. I know, I should read the whole thread. I will, as soon as I can get the extra time. I did read joebob's post, and I'm usually wary enough to switch out the pin hinges with Robart brand pins.
