    I saw on an RC-groups thread about this plane that the Hacker A30-10XL has 600 watts. But I went to Hacker's website and they say it only has 450 watts.

    Status: offline     		Yeah, I imagine there are differences in what a motor can do and what the company that makes it can do. A similar example was the JR 8611 and Hitec 5955 servos. Independent testers found they were capable of more than what JR and Hitec said they could do. I wonder if anyone has tested the Torque motor to see if it's about 518 watts.

    I did some research and I think the Thunder Power Pro-lite 2100 3S1P may be the way to go. One guy I've talking to that has one over in Germany said he liked using the Evo 1800 maH pack for 3D because he could hover at 1/2 throttle, but he only got 5:30 flight time. Now, that pack weighs 145g and the TP weighs 142g plus you have 300 more maH and that's only 70 maH less than the recommended Evo 2170 3S1P pack, but weighs 28 grams less.

    What are your thoughts?

    Normally, I'm all about lighter is better, however I've found in planes these size two things can happen if you try to get to light. One getting the CG spot on, can be a bear, and you may end up to aft to be able to anything but hover well. The second thing is that they become like kites in any sort of wind. With a little more weight they just seem to drive through the wind better than if they are just to light. I like light, don't get me wrong, but you can get too light IMO.

    Until I get my hands on this plane and really look at it though and see, I can't say. I bought one of the new TP Extrem 2070 packs to try and I'm going to try one of Luigi's Evo packs, so we'll see how it comes out.

    I don't mind 5 or 6 minute flight times, so long as I've got a pack or three.

    Status: offline     		I agree with you entirely. I was just thinking of perspective performance. I have a WH CAP and some people probably consider it to be a pig at this altitude because it's a little over 17 lbs., but it can handle the wind and the 3W 56 I have in it can still pull it out of hover. Probably also comes down to user preference in my opinion, but I would still like to try some of those Evo packs to.

    I had a WH Extra, may she RIP now. PCM lockout took me out on a downline over some tree's and by time I recovered I just cliped the top of a tall pine and she exploded. Made me sick. Awesome plane, DA-50, way over powered, all in all an awesome plane, 16 lbs. I threw a couple of pictures just because... the other picture is also awesome vetical at the get go. Cover the first 1000 feet in right at 9 seconds on the hill and do 1000 feet every 6 seconds on my belly after that or 1000 feet every 2.5 to 3 seconds when I get into a ball or head down!! Now THAT's vertical!!!

    I saw one of these beautiful planes being put through its paces today. Absolutely awesome. Setup was the recommended A30-14L plus a TP Prolite 3S 2100.

    Hacker A30/14L
    HAcker X40-Pro ESC
    JR 285 servos very fast and powerfull
    Flight Power 2170mah 3S 25C Impressive for high discarghe
    with this set up the katana S30e is very light 1270grams..... I don't know in lbs , and you can fly about 7/8 minutes of awesome 3D, ciao Alfo

    Status: offline     		I got the oportunity to put one of these together for a friend. Very good quality aircraft. He aslo let me fly it all I can say is WOW!! I ordered mine today and am pulling the gear from my EF yak to put in it..

    Torque motor 2814 - 820 Fits perfect and has the power 500 watts
    Air Boss 45
    HS 65 servos all the way around
    Evo 2170 and TP extreme 2070 3 cell
    AR6100 rx ( as soon as they become available) till then what ever 6 ch rx I pick up from my box of electronic stuff.

    Axi 2820/10

    JETI +40 ESC

    Evo 2150 3S

    Hitec HS 65's all around

    The weight came in at 46.9 oz., a little heavy compared to some of the other setups (might be the motor/ESC combo?).

    I'm still debating with myself on the prop. Currently I have Graupner CAM 11x6 on it - it draws about 37 A with that at full bore.

    Might switch to a APC 11x7E tomorrow, or whenever the first halfway decent flying day comes up.

    Status: offline     		Both of my setups have come in at or around your weight and the plane handles the weight just fine. I'm not sure about those prop sizes though as the smallest that I've flown with is a 13x6.5. Let us know what you settle on.

    This is a 475W (max) motor. Everywhere in the specs it calls for props in the size of 11x5.5 to 12x6. Max current is said to be 42A. I'm afarid I might exceed that with a bigger prop...Any experience with this motor? I've been pretty happy with the smaller AXI's (2808) on smaller models (Mini-Katana, Edge 540, etc.).

    While it's probably ok to go up to a 12 or even 13 due to the fact that the props unload in the air and current draw drops off a lot it's your call. I'm running a Hacker A30-12L and ran a 10XL before that. Both are rated for higher props. I have no personal experience with that Axi, but I've flown enough of them in my time and they will treat you right. I would not do a lot of bench testing with a larger prop as that will heat things up a lot. Best thing would be a short test to see where it's at, and do a series of short test flights to see what the motor, battery and esc temps come down at if you decide to go up to a larger prop. You may find that the 11 or 12 is fine. I would recommend going up in small steps though for sure.

    Status: offline     		This is the same new motor and ESC used in the QQ 49"... I have them and will soon be testing on 3s and 4s packs... the 3s can spin a 14x7 prop and the 4s needs to drop down to a 12x6... The planes are similar in weight so power to weight performance should be nearly identical...
