keong -> OMEGA or COOL POWER? (12/9/2006 1:59:00 PM)

i have a engine .61fx and .46LA ....however i use omega last time as it contains castor/synthetic...

today i went the shop and buy....he gave me green colour fuel...its COOL POWER MV....and i just realise it is 100%synthetic fuel
....anyone has any idea about these 2 fuel differences after usage????
thankssss.......need help

I personally prefer full synthetic. Others prefer some or all castor. You'll get opinions from both sides and heated arguments why each side is right. My primary reason for liking synthetic oil is that it is easier to clean off of the plane. I do not run my engines fully peaked and they seem to be fine.

Personally I think both fuels are a bit low in oil content (17%) but I'm used to zero nitro fuels with a lower fuel consumption so it's probably OK for most engines when nitro is used (just don't go lean). However, the LA with its bushed crankshaft really needs a high proportion of castor for long life and a total oil content of 20-22% is usually recommended.

With an all synthetic fuel you run a high risk of rusted bearings unless you run the engine dry at, or close to, full throttle on the last flight of the day and then add an after run oil.

thanks guy....
but i check in www.morganfuel.com (never put after run oil after flying )
so i am confused.....

You'll note that they very carefully only mention petroleum based after run oils. They may have some kind of corrosion preventative mixed with the fuel but why not be certain? That's for the Cruel Power....the Omega has castor which is a great after run oil as well as lubricant.

but they said in their fuel...it contains also after run oil....thats' why we are safe and dont need to put after run oil....may u can check out in their website....FAQ column of CRUEL POWER

I prefer Omega over Cool Power because it is a blend and has Castor Oil in it. Cool Power is okay but never ever run lean or your engines are cooked for good.

As for the alledged "after run" oil protection, I don't think it is wise to omit using a good after run oil even after Omega and Cool Power (which are blended by the same company -- Morgan's). Thailand is humid, lots of moisture in the air. So in your case more is better.

Good luck,

Cheers,

Both Omega, and Cool Power are excellent fuels, both are widely used, and both have been well respected over decades of continuous use.
There are some diferences though, and there is where you make a choice.
One is tinted PINK, and the other is tinted GREEN....which one do you like?

Kidding aside....there are a few minor reasons to go with one or the other.
Cool Power, the green one, is a synthetic oil based fuel, and although the synthetic oil is actually more slippery than castor oil, it has a lower flash point. That simply means that if the motor runs quite a bit too hot, (the dreaded lean run) the synthetic can burn off and no longer be there as a lubricant. That's a bit of a downside, but on the other hand, synthetics tend to not crystalize on the exterior of the motor and muffler, so they keep the machine looking better.

Omega, the pink one, is a castor oil based fuel, and castor oil has been the motor lubricant of choice for ages...long before synthetics came on the scene. It is an excellent lubricant, and because it has a higher flash point, it will hang in there, doing its job of lubricating, at higher operating temperatures (there's that dreaded lean run again) than the synthetic can withstand You get a bit of lean run protection with a castor oil based fuel, but the price you pay for that extra protection from castor is that it tends to crystalize on the exterior of your motor and muffler, and that just doesn't look pretty. It will leave a dark stain on the piston and liner too, but that stain is still acting as a lubricant.
Pretty neat stuff, eh?
Castor is also a very fine after run oil too.
So, which one do you choose?
Well...do you like pink, or green?

Don't believe all the advertising hype you read (and that goes for HP figures for engines too). Actually I did go to their FAQ but if you also go to their fuel mixes for both types of fuel and read what's in their "FAI" fuel you'll see what I mean. True FAI fuel must have 20% oil and only pure castor.

i think so....they are good in marketting....looks like i gonna change the fuel to PINK one is better...thanks mate!

flyguy506 -> RE: OMEGA or COOL POWER? (7/26/2007 1:31:50 PM)

I researched the subject after getting back into RC. I decided that a little castro is good so I mix the two 50/50. I also use marvel oil as a after run oil just for added protection. I never have trouble with my engines.

For what its worth, flyguy

Jezmo -> RE: OMEGA or COOL POWER? (7/27/2007 3:17:54 PM)

Just another point of view. I buy the all synthetic fuels and then add about 2 percent castor myself. That seems to be enough to protect the engines as an after run oil and since most of my engines are of the ring variety I don't worry about lean runs. I usually run the ring ones at peak or no more than 100 down. I have a ST 40 ring in a Super Sportster that is over ten years old and still runs great. It has more lean runs (sometimes even sagging a bit in flight) than slightly rich runs and most of the fuel run through it has been the beloved one we affectionately call CruelPower. I do have a MDS 48 in a SkyLark 56 MKII and I run that one with mostly castor (Omega) based fuel although it has had some CoolPower run through it and I always make sure it never runs lean. (Bought it at a swap meet for 20 bucks. It still runs very strong as well and being an ABC type I tend to pay attention to the rules of overheating more with it.) As Capt Jim said above, the synthetics tend to have a bit more lubricity but for some engines, especially those with bushings on the crank and ABC type piston/cyl, the castor is important.

Have a great day all. [8D]
