srcrawlin -> LVC Help for a123 (12/9/2006 3:30:06 PM)

Can anyone recommend a LVC for the A123 packs.

My ESC's are older and doesn't have them built-in.

Sorry I'm LVC illiterate...

It says to set a cutoff voltage for 2v/cell. that's just the # of cell in series right.

I would like to run a turbo module, I don't know if that complicates things by changing the voltage.

wiring advice, setting custom cutoff voltage.

I could really use some info...thanks

Yes the recomended cutoff / LVC is 2volts per .
I do not have a Turbo Module but from what I have read it boost the voltage level at the expense of run time.

There are a couple of Threads here about the turbo.
One post with several answers in it.

The turbo is not for use with Brushless or very high amp. setups. I believe it is limited to 20A cont. max.

My Traxxas Rustler with the stock ESC which was for 6 cell NiCad/NiMH packs worked fine with a 3S A123. When the Truck slowed down the battery was close to 6 volts (2V per cell).

I have a CC Mamba 5700 combo in the Rustler now and I use default setting for LVC whic is non. When it starts slowing down enough that it is noticeable the pack is just over 6 volts for a 3 cell pack. The voltage bouches up to approx. 9 volts when the load is removed.

If you will be using the A123 battery in an aircraft then you can purchase an add-on adjustable LVC.

The CellShield

works extremely well. Current model only can be set to min.of 2.5 per cell but they are working on a model to be more compatible with A123 cells.

Update on LVC on Rustler ,CC Mamba Max 5700.

For approx. 60 runs I left LVC set to none. Most runs pack(3S) was at between 7.8 and 8.2V within five min. after a run to where the Truck was getting very slow or would not move at all.
I have tried setting LVC at 6 / 6.5 / and 7 volts and there is really no difference other than at 6.5 and 7 V the Truck stops all at once with no devrease in speed / power.
Every recharge is between 2200 and 2300 , most closer to 2300 reguardless of the LVC setting. I have gone back to none and shall leave it there. With it set to none ther is just a brief period where a slight slow down is noticed.

110 cycles and still running like new.

I continue to run this pack flat OPV right at 8 volts . Runs are 9 minutes and recharges are 2200 to 2300 mAh. Just completed cycle number 141.
