    Status: offline     		Hey thanks for the offer Mike! I didn't know that, I have other radios but didn't think they would work. Any way I needed another receiver and I really like the DX6i as a buddy box set up.

    Status: offline     		I need to buy batteries for the Electristar, I am leaning towards the lipos, do I need to buy the balencer, which is an additional $29 from Tower Hobbies?

    If I get the recommended lipo pack, I think it already has the required deans connector?

    Below is the balancer:
    Great Planes ElectriFly Equinox LiPo Balancer.
    For LiPo (Lithium Polymer) battery packs with 2 to 5 cells,
    assembled IN SERIES and wired for Balancing.
    NOT Compatible with LiPo packs having a 2-pin Charge lead.

    Will I be set if I order the recommended lipo batteries (two)Great Planes ElectriFly Power Series
    Lithium Polymer 3200mAh 7.4V 20C Battery Pack with Balance Connector plus the above balancer?

    Is there anything else I will need to get up and flying?

    I noted a hex wrench for the prop and some ca thread locker Z-42.

    Status: offline     		those are the lipo's i use and i like them just fine and they do come with deans. the equinox is fine also, that's what i use. i charge through the deans all the time, and after about 5-7 flights, i'll put the balancer on to get the cells back in line. if lipo's have sat for a month or so, then i charge through the balancer at a low charge rate. you will also need a lipo charger. i use the Hobbico Accu-Cycle Elite Battery Cycler, and also the Great Planes PolyCharge4 DC 4. both works great.

    I am new here and to the hobby(about 5 mouths). I started out on a slow stick and then purchased the e-star. I am have been flying it successfully for sometime now(except for this one time) and did purchase the apc 13x6.5e because others had recommended it . With the apc prop and lipo batteries it took of from the ground in 3-4 feet and had great climb rate. But a am having a problem with the esc cutting out. I don't have the tool to test the amp draw but from a previous post I read it pulled 33 amp wot, well within the 45 amp limit. when I land the plane on the ground I felt the esc and was uncomfortable after about a couple seconds. Even running with the stock prop the esc is hotter than it should but not cutting out(someone at the field had a temp gun and it read 120 degrees F with stock prop). I am running two 4cell lipo in parallel.
    what have you guys done. Have anyone had their esc replaced and fixed the problem? Has anyone put in a different esc, if so which one did you use? I hate flying the plane with the stock prop!!!

    by the way I have 5 plane now and I am trying hard not to become like the crazy people with 20 or so planes.

    I will probably go with the lipo batteries for longer flight times I purchased the following from my local hobby shop for about $89 since I have some light planes that use nicads. I bought the Vision Peak Ultra AC/DC Charger 1-3 Cell LiPo 1-8 cell NiMh
    Dynamite DYN4053

    I see where it will charge 2-cell lipos which is what the electristar requires, though I am guessing I can only charge one at a time. I am guessing the lipo pack will peak charge in 15 to 20 minutes?

    I also gather I should order the balancer?

    Should I use the balancer after I go home to recharge?

    Or each time when I peak recharge at the field?

    Also where can I buy the futaba trainer cord if no one in my club has one?

    Hopefully I won't have to buy a second transmitter for the instructor pilot?

    I think there is already one trainer cord setup for an Electristar in the club.

    Status: offline     		Hawk, I had to replace my ESC as well. I bought one off Ebay that works fine (I think it's an 80 amp). I also had the urge to expand my hangar indefinitely, but my wife had other ideas... I have built several foamies that I found plans for online, and they are fun to fly and cheaper than store bought planes, just more labor to get flying. Labor is cheaper than planes!

    JC, I would use what your LHS recommends. You definitely need a balancer for lipos. I use mine every time I recharge (equinox). Your LHS doesn't have a trainer cord? I don't think I would buy another transmitter unless I was stepping up to a 2.4ghz setup.

    Status: offline     		the vision peak charger will work just fine for the lipo's. i think it comes with the tynami style connectors so you just have to make up and adapater to connect to the deans. lipo's take about an hour to charge since they can only be charged at 1C. the balancer is a must for lipo's, do not have to balance every charge, but maby after about 5 flights or so i'll stick the balancer on them to get them in balance.
    i have 2 lipo charger's that i use. i use the accu-cycle elite that i use at home to charge before i go to the field, then at the field i use the Great Planes PolyCharge4 since i can charge 4 lipo's at one time. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXKAU0&P=ML

    Status: offline     		any ca will work for this. just make sure to remove the covering from the area you glue so you have wood to wood contact for the strongest bond. as far as wind, for the first couple flights i would fly with very little wind, but after you get used to it, it will be whatever you feel comfortable flying in. i've flown in 20mhp winds a few times and it is a lot of fun. as far as building tips go, just make sure everything is tight, for motor mount, i took one screw out at a time and put some thread lock on it and screw back in, but other then that i can't think of anything to watch out for.

    Status: offline     		I've just ordered two LiPo's for my Electristar. The NimAh only last about 3-5 minutes. Sounds like the LiPo's may not be any better. Is it an ESC problem?
