screendoor -> RE: Hobbico Electristar Select EP Trainer RTF (12/29/2007 5:34 PM)

I'm trying to adjust the aileron control throws on my Electristar by moving the pushrod to a different hole on the servo. But it seems that the pushrod"s diameter makes it too big for any hole on the servo arm besides the hole furthest to the outside. I think I could probably force the pushrod into one of the smaller holes, but I don't want to damage anything. I'm a newbie at this stuff (that's probably obvious) and I'm surprised that the holes on the servo arm are different sizes. Am I missing something here? Anybody have any advice? Thanks.

rick88ss -> RE: Hobbico Electristar Select EP Trainer RTF (12/29/2007 9:12 PM)

Use a small drill to make it the same size as the one you're currently using or make the hole bigger with an exacto knife blade. Stick the tip in and twirl it around. Only do a little bit at a time and check for fitment.

screendoor -> RE: Hobbico Electristar Select EP Trainer RTF (12/29/2007 10:13 PM)

Thanks very much for your response. This is pretty much what I figured.

But why would the inside holes be smaller than the outside hole? Is this typical? Asking this is just me being a curious newbie trying to learn something, I guess.

rick88ss -> RE: Hobbico Electristar Select EP Trainer RTF (12/29/2007 10:44 PM)

The outside hole is bigger because they did that at the factory when they put it together. All servo and control horns usually have the holes a little small so you can open it to whatever size you need depending on the wire pushrod size or clevise you use. Are you trying to increase or reduce the throws? Moving the pushrod in on the servo arm reduces throw and moving the pushrod(clevise) in on the control horn increases throw. The Hobbico Electristar has screw in clevises at the control horns for easier adjustment.

When you said that you altered the battery connector to use a 4 cell LiPo could you post a pic so that i can see what you did? I don't want to fry my electronics cause I'm new to E power.

rcdiehard -> RE: Hobbico Electristar Select EP Trainer RTF (1/9/2008 10:51 AM)

When you said that you used the 4 cell lipo do you have a pic of the mod you did to the other battery connector? I am new to E power and i don't want to short out any wires.

rick88ss -> RE: Hobbico Electristar Select EP Trainer RTF (1/10/2008 12:01 AM)

All I did was remove the 2 battery connectors coming from the ESC and just use one. Connect (solder) the black wire that comes from the ESC (Electronic Speed Control) to the - on a deans ultra plug and the red wire to the + on the deans plug. Then you can use a single 4000mAh (14.8V) 4S lipo or two 4S (14.8V) 2000mAh or two 4000mAh (14.8V)4S lipos with a parallel connector. Or you can also use two 2S(7.4V) 4000mAh lipos in series. Series connection doubles the voltage and a parallel connection doubles the current and mAh of the 2 batteries. Also make sure that the batteries that you use have the proper C rating.

So who knows what the KV and AMP rating of this C-42 Brushless.
Tower says it's a 42mm x 40mm can. I don't think its quite the same as the rimfire series.

What's the max AMP?

itchycods -> RE: Hobbico Electristar Select EP Trainer RTF (1/24/2008 12:42 PM)

Anybody see where Tower has the Electristar for $199? what a steal.

I measured the current and power using two 7-cell 3000mAh packs and a single 4-cell 3200mAh (20C) LiPo pack.
  • 27amps (190w * 2=380w) w/two 7-cell 3000mAh NiMH packs (30oz total)
  • 30amps (440w) w/single 4-cell 3200mAh (20C) LiPo pack (14oz)

Hi Greg,

Do you recall what the max AMP this motor can handle? I am wanting to experiment using 11.1v and prop it up to perhaps a 12x8 APC or maybe even a 13x7 APC. I just need to know what this motor can take? My guess is 40 contant ???

Thanks,
Clark

I agree, that and a $20 code = $188.94. Not Bad. Plus s&h.

I have run it at 35 amps and 18 volts constant for 10 minutes lots of times and it's still running. But for only a 3s lipo you will need a lot more prop than you can fit on the plane, a bad idea I think. A 13x6.5 prop will draw 35 amps at 15 volts. Lipos are old news for me. If you're going to spend that kind of money on a large 3s lipo, you might as well get into A123 cells. A single 5s pack of A123's will perform just as good as the stock nimh they recommend for only about $55 for the pack if you buy the dewalt rechargeable drill pack "DC9360". You can make two 5s packs from this. Plus the setup will be lots lighter and the plane will perform better. I would highly suggest reading up on these cells before you go through with your 3s lipo idea.

areeves, I live Lewisville. Hey neighbor! I like the Electristar a bunch, but I'm not sure it would be a good first plane-it was my second. I started with a Hobbyzone Supercub (which I highly recommend). I have had mostly good luck with mine other than, when I first started flying it, I had 2 lipo batteries, and was expecting around 10 minute flight time at least, but even with throttle management, fully charged batteries, etc... I was only getting 2-3 minutes. I changed ESC's and had much better flight times. It was probably under warranty, but I didn't hassle with it, I just bought one off Ebay. I suggest reading back through this thread for more insight, but for $200, it's hard to beat.

Hey itchycods

Yea i got a supercub to love it. i been flying several months now. I flew about 18 years ago when the kids where little, well i mainly built them and
they flew em. Thats one reason i wanted the electristar no building.

Thats was one my questions about flight time. i have some 7 cell nimh 3800 mah batteries i was going to use them.

Well any more info will be helpful.

Mine should be here today, as for the battery i'm leaning toward a
4s 3300mAh lipo.

Hey guys,

Carefully unpack your plane and look for any
Hangar rash. Mine had a little on the nose and
the top of the Rudder. I'm not complaining though.
I took me the better part of an Hour, just to unpack it.
lol Hope to assemble some of it today. I can see
where some Thread lock will come in handy also.

It will take me a lot longer than an hour lol. That's
just me though. I'm checking everything and then some.
I'm in no hurry, the weather is bad(for flying) and this will give me
some quality time in the shop lol.
