well, this is what iam doing right now. i have a piece of board, maybe twice the length and width of the heli. i tied my heli in the middle of the board at about 6 inches high. i will increase the high as i progress. this way it will not go anywhere when it lift off. oh i use the training landing kit too. still my heli is no lift off after i replaced the parts.. huhhuhuh...waaa...

Bonjing,

Forgive me, but it is unwise to tether it. Your will be trying to do the hardest thing (at this point) which is to hover in one place. When you get to the end of the tether, it will jerk the helicopter and crash it.

Use training gear and take it slow. Stock up on parts (I do this every time I get a new machine).

Learning to fly takes a bit of time, a lot of effort, and, sadly, many spare parts.

Good luck and try to enjoy the process.

Ah Clem,

Where the heck have you been? I haven't seen any posts from you in awhile...at least not in the 36 thread. What are you flying these days? Hows the G2 doing?

Hi All:
I too am a noob at this whirly bird stuff. I have crashed my heli a few times trying to learn to hover. I must say that JB Weld is a wonderfull thing. LOL i Discovered yesterday that the gold knurled nut on the blue aliminum part of the rotor head was loose causing the heli to vibrate, also when i applied right aileron it cause the heli to bolt skyward. ( caused the worse crash yet LOL ) now with it tightend i can actually hover for a few seconds. WOOHOOO !! what an accomplishment for me, anyway i have this forum to thank for my so far limited success. I read the below post and was thinking that maybe if hatchithecat tried turning the main rotor blade connector over it might solve his reversed pitch problem because this will put the connector balls on the opposit side and cause the blades to rotate (pitch) in the oposite direction. You can check your pitch action by disconnecting the main motor power connector ( I usually disonnect the tail rotor as well) then give it some throttle. the leading edge(more blunt edge) of the blades should go up (increasing pitch) ,and go down (decreasing pitch) when the throttle is decreased. If it does the opposite then try flipping the blade connector over and re-insert the main rotor blades Hope this helps Please let me know. i am also interested in this CNC rotor head for my whirly bird

Hi Again,

Cdheli 13 asked me about my V2 CNC head, I am going to post what I answered him just in case somebody has the same problems that I do. It might help to find a solution

"
I set up everyting (got the head from xmseller in ebay stores) and with problems, everyting is now in place or "semi-place", (I used the pushrods ( rom, servo arms to swash plate) from a Honey Bee that I got at a hobby store, but those are short, so my servo arms are not perpendicular to the ground, but in a higher position.... that is not "entirelly" good.. but I just going to hover in this thing and relativelly all servo arms are now at the same level.....), anyway after setting up the pitch of the blades and everyting else, I noticed that there is a serious problem, when I try to take off turning the throttle up, the pitch of the blades decreases instead of increasing, this can reversed with the DIP #3, I did this during set up, but then it must turned back to the previous position in order for throttleling up with the left stick going from bottom to the high position, but then......the throttle and pitch of the blades is reversed!!!, this happens to everybody with this new V2 heads for the walkera 22e I read on the Walkera 22e let's talk thread of the forums, (Eagle 50 is a copy of the W22e, I thought I could use it with no problems in my Eagle).
There must be a way to program the radio to reverse just the pitch....; I am trying to find out on the net, it has to do with the DIP controls in the back of the tx... so far I can not take off, I get no lift so I can not tell you anything, but the head it supposed to do wanders for stability and "unbreakability" (I flipped twice on mi trials and nothing happened to the head!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....)

It is frustrating, if I get the solution to the problem I will post it.

See you!

Hatchi

"do the flybar parts for the vnr 3d fit on the eagle 50? "

Yes, they fit.

Orion,

How are you doing? Good to see that you are still at it too!

I am flying TREX 450's, a TREX 600, the Raptor G2, and I just installed a pre-production metal head on my VNR3D. I have been working very hard on inverted with the TREX's.

The Raptor G2 is still flying. I installed the lighter flybar paddle holders for the Shogun V2 on it, but cyclic is still slow as anything. I might go to the metal head on it. It is a little quicker but takes forever to complete one roll. I have not attempted inverted as the cyclic is so slow that it would be difficult to get out of a bad situation if I got it into one.

The metal head for the Venom is pretty cool. I still have some tweaking of pitch curves to do, and the Bell/Hiller ratio is adjustable on it, so I have a lot of learning to do with it. I never broke the little plastic pins on the stock head, but I see no way that one could ever break the metal pins/mixing arms on this one. It is very, very tough.

al clem,

what effects did the metal head have on the VNR 3D? is it any better?

how much was it? was it worth buying?

cdheli13,

I have only test hovered it. It seems a bit more stable, but I have to tweak the linkage and the pitch curves. The interesting thing about it is that there are two holes in the Bell/Hiller mixing arms-so the response is adjustable. I have the pushrods in the outermost holes, making it more docile at the moment. I need to increase the collective range overall and do some more adjusting. I am running the carbon fiber blades (have been for the last50 flights or so).

I do not know what the cost is. I have been very successful with the VNR3D, so Venom was kind enough to send me a pre-production sample to test. Very nice of them!

The quality of the machined parts if very good.

The fact that the small plastic pegs on the see-saw have been eliminated in favor of machined metal parts (the see-saw, the pegs, the mixing arms), should be beneficial to beginners and experienced people as well. The swashplate, servo mounts, and blade holders are metal too. The flybar cage remains the original plastic one.

I will post more when I have flown it more.

Is there an aluminum tail rotor mount available? I keep breaking the plastic POS that holds the tail rotor in place. I spent >$20 and over 2 hours fiddling with tiny screws and solder and more small screws only to have 15 seconds or whirling around and breaking in the same place again. What good is an aluminum boom when the tail piece is crap plastic? Its actually a plastic step joint that is 2 different sizes, (The middle piece in the pic) the larger diameter mounts into the boom with the microscopic screws, and the smaller diameter into to motor mount thingy... This is the piece that keeps breaking. I have yet to find replacement parts which include only that part and not the whole tail rotor assembly.

I don't know if this would fit or not, but it looks like it would. You should email and ask.
