Status: offline 		Can we just get back to posting photos of models that are hard to tell if they are full scale or not? I think there have been some great ones posted recently, but I also think there have been a few that are not close to what this thread is about. If you have to look hard at the photo to tell if it's a model, than it's a winner in my book. I also guess it all depends on how much you know about certain models/aircraft. I'm no Top Gun judge, but I can usually tell whether it's full scale or not pretty quickly unless it's great shot of a great looking model. But if it's obvious it's a model, than don't post it, period.

I think what Strega is talking about regarding the "angle of the swastika" is actually how the tips of the swastika are aligned/rotated. It's not a matter of them being in the "wrong direction" (which would end up looking like a Buddhist symbol) rather it's a matter of the swastika being slightly "out of rotation." That's possible. I'd have to look really really closely. But since Strega is from Germany he may have a more sensitive eye in this regard.

They have a certain quality that adds to the illusion. Thats the name of the game... Not just taking high resolution shot of models.

Upload your photos to a site like Flickr. On flickr or other picture sites there will be copy url or share button that will put the picture's address into your clipboard. Then use the "image" button above the posting box here on RCU and paste the copied URL in-between the "image|image" code.

When you click on the "image" button it will automatically put the prompts into your post, then you just click with your cursor between the words "image|image" to set the insertion point. Hit ctrl-v and it will put the picutre info into your post. That's it!

Thanks Neil. I know what you mean about a menacing look. That machine can do some incredible damage in just seconds. You would love seeing the detail work on the model in-person. It is a work of art.

Here's a ground shot of the Apache, and a look at the cockpit detail - Wow, the pilot is amazingly detailed with wires and mics. And even the custom made proper tail configuration.

Status: offline 		Wow, that's a beauty! 125" electric is so cool. I like the scale look of the engine nacelles without cylinder heads popping out where they shouldn't be and so forth.

Congrats on joining in with the picture posting too. Only you're second post and you chose this forum.

The clouds really make that shot.

Thanks for posting and your heli looks quite nice with the fuse. Only problem is that the intention of this thread is to post images of models that look as scale as possible. Many of the shots around here can fool someone as to whether they are looking at the full-size aircraft or a scale replica. And that's the idea.

So on your heli I can see a variety of obvious non-scale features. All is not lost though because with a few photoshop actions you could have a nice near-scale model there. We are all trying to help each other to acheive realistic presentations and photoshop/image manipulation is not a bad word in here.

I would like to see your heli with no smoke exiting the bottom and no flybar paddles for starters. Those are pretty easy items to remove with photoshop.

If you wouldn't mind I could give it a few photoshop tweaks to make it more realistic.

I thought that at first but the T on the wing and the T9 on the fuse is in the correct direction. It is possible I didn't place the swastika quite right at the angle though. But the left and right side of the tail are in opposite directions based on photos and other documentation I have.

BTW, that apache at dusk looks very realistic.

The photo has been published in an article already, so maybe it wouldn't be cool to touch it up. Just delete it if you wish, no problem

My intent in this thread is to learn from others and to help others if I can.. If we can all make better models and images of them then everyone benefits. You are probably right about not editing this photo since it was not taken by you.

Status: offline 		In this case, the conversion to a black and white (or sepia) photo doesn't do anything to enhance the realism. In fact, when googling the Hughes 500 (first flown in 1963) I couldn't find a single image in B&W.
