Hope I'm not going to get dumped on, but I think these are OK. Taken by a fellow flyer at a local scale meet.

I would say that the right bank turn is closest to the scale shot. The others still have that not real look. Nice model tho!

Kiwi - the take-off pic looks great. That is a fine looking plane.

The Diving run would look better in a Sepia tone and a white border around the photo to give it that aged look. Maybe even Photoshop in some flak clouds around it.

This is a picture of the Odegaard's family Corsair as featured in this month AOPA PILOT.
And yes, it is a picture of the original, not of a model!!
But isn't it interesting how it looks as though it was a model? How about that? Should give new fuel to scale photography discussions...

It's true. Color wasn't around until the 50's.

Spuetz,
It really does resemble photo of a model. My thoughts are that it is because of the ultra-low angle of the shot.
Many of us modelers overdo the "lowness" factor when attempting a scale shot.

Now what else can we determine is making it look modellike?

Yes, I think as well that it is definitely the low angle with the "huge" grass leaves in the foreground. Another thing might be the fact that the design of that Corsair is somewhat toy-like. A typical design you would find on a trainer oder fun model... There is no "weathering" visible, either: Shiny prop and all..
Also - although I don't know why - the light and clearness. The bright red against the clear blue and the grass-green? may be the picture was photoshopped too much?

I agree.
The glare on the prop, and the size of it, helps it appear modellike.

There's no surface "texture" evident either. You know, rippled panels, panel lines, weathering etc. Too "perfect" looking. Low res photo probably largely to blame.
