I put in 2 flights today before the rain started. The wind was dead calm so I had to run out and take advantage of the perfect trimming conditions. I can tell now that over all the Zeque is the best plane that I have flown to date. It does pitch to the belly slightly with left rudder knife edge and a little bit less to the belly with right rudder. Not bad but similar to most other pattern planes that I have flown. There is also very slight proverse roll coupling in knife edge. (roll in direction of rudder). Both easily mixed out. The aileron throw was reduced to 10 degrees and I like it better than before at 12 degrees. The ailerons start and stop very positively and cleanly in roll and the pitch control is equally positive. Vertical lines are very good and the thrust line seems extremely close to perfect. Due to the low clouds, I did not take it up to do spins today so I will reserve comment on that until next time.
The Axi / Castle set ran great with tons of power. 10 minutes from take off till touchdown required 3200mah returned to the packs.
The best way to describe the plane is that it presents extremely well. That is very difficult to quantify but it just looks great while going through the maneuvers. If only my skills were a close match for the plane's capabilities
Chris no problem all you need is a regular schedule, regular meal times, consistent sleeping schedule, drink plenty of water and practice while you are alert.......the rest will just fall in place...simple enough!

Very nice day today in spite of the forecast. I got in 6 more flights with the Zeque and it keeps getting better. I decided that the C/G was a little too fwd for my liking and found tonight it was set closer to 180mm not the 190mm like I thought. So I moved it to 190mm for next time. Of course the mixes will change slightly, but should still be close. I did numerous snaps and spins and it will stop rotation immediately when you release the inputs. There is no need to"lead" the exit for those used to planes that will continue to rotate after inputs are released. Just let go exactly when you want to stop and it will stop.
I let a friend who flies Intermediate class fly it a little and his comment was that "it makes him look better than he is". He flew it very well with no practice yet this year up until today.

My new special electric Zeque gear is finished. The plane now has plenty of prop clearance for flying off of grass as well as maintaining the "Zeque" look. It is a set of Bolly F3A "Long" carbon gear painted similar to the factory Zeque gear. The new gear after painting is only 1/10oz heavier than the factory gear. It was hard to make the sweeping checkerboard scheme on a narrow gear leg.

I asked Mr. Suzuki (Zeque designer) about the proper pronunciation of "Zeque" and here was his answer:
"Pronunciation will be closer in Zee-q. This is a coined word from Japanese. And this meaning is the perfect sky. We put a wish for this airplane. It means that I can fly a perfect performance perfect in the sky. And we brothers named it to this airplane. We pray for that all of you can fly a perfect performance for pilots flying this airplane."
Call it what you wish, this is honestly the best F3A airplane that I have ever flown.

I know this is an old thread now but just to update, the Axi powered Zeque now has abut 100 flights and has held up very well. I did break the landing gear plate out a while ago after a not so hard landing so I suggest it be reinforced by the builder before you fly it. It needs some triangle stock and probably another layer of ply on the inside if you are flying from grass. Although I think the gear plate should be stronger, my landing gear is longer than stock and puts more stress on the plate than the shorter stock gear. I sent the damaged plate to Oxai and I am guessing that newer planes will be a little stronger. Other than that, the plane is still awesome and flies better than I am capable of doing. The finish is still perfect and there have been no stress cracks or vibration induced structural problems as one would expect with the electric motor. The lack of vibration is a real bonus as far as airframe longevity is concerned. I have not even had to tighten a single screw. And at 100 flights, the Axi / Castle power system has been 100% reliable. Never had a single hiccup or problem. The carbon fiber - ply forward firewall is holding up without any problems at all.

I want to thank Chris again for sending the pictures of the broken gear plate and later, at Oxai's request, the pieces themselves. I immediately forward the pictures to Oxai and they determined that they had gotten a bad batch of 5mm ply.
I was at Oxai about 10 days later and they told me that they really appreciated Chris' help with the pictures. (The samples were sent later.) They immediately changed the gearplate material from 5mm to a laminate of 2 pieces of 3mm ply. Their drop testing showed it to be stronger than "good" 5mm ply and even better than a single piece of 6mm ply.
Oxai makes high quality models. If there is a problem they appreciate an e-mail explaining the problem and pictures. They do not "bury their heads in the sand" and run from or ignore a problem. They correct it.

Thanks Sam.
I think what sets Oxai apart is that they truly take pride in their products and want to keep their customers happy.
P.S. since someone asked me offline - no, I am not sponsored by Oxai nor did I get anything for writing this thread. I paid full retail as would anyone else - no discount.
