Doc,

Put an 11x6 prop on it, or you will have it running 'over the hill', i.e. beyond the power peak, as it is on the ground.

It's a four-stroke, not a two-stroke .40...

Got my question answered by the nice folks at Global Hobbies: the magnum 46 sleeve and piston will NOT interchange with a O.S. 46 fx crankcase.

Guys!

This thread was started by Zephyrus in December last year, asking how other members of RCU rate OS engines.

He did notice many like their ease of operation and he also noticed many hate other attributes of these engines.

I believe some of the 176 replies gave this person a good idea of what we like and of what we dislike about OS...

...and if we think they are worth the premium one has to pay to own an OS and if we think it is justified.

Now, this thread has become a 'garbage can' for all sorts of unrelated questions about OS engines, that those refraining from opening a new thread (which the RCU rules dictate), just chime-in and type them here...

Moderators, let's lock this thread to new, off-subject traffic.

Why should any thread be locked, as long as the rules of no profanity, personal abuse, etc., are followed? If one does not wish to participate any further - don't.

Well to be fair to RCU it is a bit harsh towards a company who makes a good product, and has ads on this forum.

I missed that part, to be honest with you.

I've never understood why folks want to close threads, or why they get upset if someone resurrects an old one.

My apology to Dar. Gotta get this first cup of coffee down...

Maybe we can get this thread back on track. It has been pretty good about not being an OS bashing forum so far.

The hottest, most popular 75 around is the Tower 75.

I haven't seen a OS 75AX but I been around several 46AX's and a 120AX quite a bit.

The AX's are extremely user friendly and likeable engines. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

The Four Star 60 is a very adaptable plane and will fly about the same with a wide variety of engines from 60 - 100 two strokes and 65 to 100 four strokes.

Why yes, I do. I am one of the FEW guys here who actually have run that engine, and I actually test flew it in my Sig 4*60. So here is some firsthand experience for you...

The AX75 is a very, very good engine IMO. It is easy to handle (meaning excellent running characteristics) and easy to tune in completely stock form. Its well built and I would think it would provide you with years of excellent running, provided you know how to run engines (not too lean, correct prop and clean fuel, etc).

As for that plane/engine combo, its just about perfect IMO - a lot of power for fun sport aerobatic flying. I did a full review on that engine a few months back for Fly RC Magazine.

But I am sure a lot of guys here who havnt even seen the engine in real life, let alone ran/flown one, will tell you everything thats wrong with it..

I would love to try out the 75AX - but the current $200 price tag keeps me from buying one, would buy it at a heart beat if it were something like $140-150..

Ive never used any other brand than OS,Saito and YS in this hobby. (lots of OS engines back in my onroad racer days..) I just love the reliability and user friendlyness of OS engines- 2 or 4stroke. I always find them very expensive, go read reviews of other engines / copies of OS, its competitors; but at the end I end up buying the OS brand no matter what.. Because I know it will run the way I imagine.

Those are a bunch of great engines for sure, but you are really missing out on alot of other great engines by limiting your mind in that way. Let me mention Rossi, MVVS, Webra, Enya, Irvine and many more, even some cheap ones are great too

There have been, and are, a lot of very good engine manufacturers around. There are also some marginal ones. There have also been some engines that should never have been allowed on the market.

There have also been some manufacturers who have had spotty quality control, so that some engine batches, or even some engines within a production batch, run great, while others barely run at all. There have even been instances where people with a competition bent, especially in racing and control line combat, will buy a dozen or more of a single engine, regardless of manufacturer, then get out the calipers, disassemble, measure, and mix-and-match parts to get a few engines to meet their requirements.

An example of one model engine manufacturer not mentioned previously just got written up in the Nov. 8 edition of Machine Design magazine. A 60 cc twin cyclinder engine by RCV has been chosen for a small UAV to be built by Honeywell.

RCV engines generally use a rotating cylinder for the intake/exhaust function.

Might be mentioned in www.machinedesign.com.
