I have several airplanes and a couple heli's. All except 5 machines are on a separate radio.
I was looking at the Eclipse 7 w/ spectra to put up to 7 planes or heli's on and get rid of seven transmitters. Everything is on a different channel except the 5 machines on two Prism 7x's.

Can I use the Eclipse 7 to:
-fly both airplanes and heli's?
-fly Futaba, JR, Airtronics receivers?
-Is there enough versitility for advanced heli flying

Looking for your experiences and possible limitations in what I'm trying to do. Hitec bashers need not respond unless info is pertenant to the post.

By the way, are any other radios out there that can fly any channel or brand receiver?

Thank you in advance

The Eclipse WILL fly both helis and airplanes. You simply choose what type aircraft it is in the menus when setting it up. You can also choose what shift you need to fly, neg or pos, when setting it up. In other words, you can set up model 1 to fly a neg shift heli, model 2 to fly a pos shift airplane, model 3 to fly a sailplane, and so on. As far as 3d, it will not disappoint you! The Spectra makes it even versatile.

How are the menu's?, easy to understand ?

The programing on the Prism 7x's I have is relatively easy to understand,I just don't like all the 3-letter symbols.
Does the Eclipse have menu's with actual words?

Since I have JR, Airtronics and Futaba receivers and radios, can I use the JR and airtronics recievers with the Eclipse Spectra? I definatly don't want to remove the receivers and replace with hitec's. I just want to eliminate all the transmitters I have and keep all the flight packs.

Appreciate your input.

I've had my Eclipse7 for about a year now. I'm very impressed with its versatility.
Each model can be named, selected as sail, heli, acro and have selectable shift. The Spectra module works great, but be careful with the plastic removal tabs/latches - mine broke after many insertions/removals.
The display has 4 alpha-numeric characters plus 2 numerics... Its not a dot-matrix display (booo). Still, I feel it is very easy to program. The included TX battery is a 600mAh NiCd, sufficient, but not impressive.
The 5 Programmable mixes are great.
In summary, its a great mid-range radio. If I needed a second radio - I'd buy another.

Almost everyone around here, including me, except the Most basic or Most advanced Flyers use the Eclipse 7.
People on thier second plane normally still have a low end 4 or 5 channel radio, and the Really advanced flyers all use the JR 10X or Futaba 9something or another.

But for the rest of us that are just out there to have fun, we like the eclipse.
Honestly I know there are better Radio's out there. I was looking at getting an 8103 when I picked up the Eclipse. There were two main factors that made me go with the Hitec.
Cost and versatility.
239 retail is a lot better than 469 when I only gain 1 channel.

And the Ability to work on any frequency is beyond words. No more having multiple radio's or switching reciever crystals. Just trn two little dials and you are set.

Yes I think the 8103, 10X or high end Futaba, are all better radios. But the Eclipse 7 is a much better value. Which for someone who just wants to have fun is most important.

One thing you can do to minimize the possibility of breaking the Hitec Spectra Module tabs:

1. Remove your Spectra Module.

2. Dremel a hole in the rear case just large enough to tweak the two potts.

3. Insert Spectra Module (for the very last time)

A buddy showed me this and I haven't removed my module in months.

So can I use Airtronics and JR receivers with the spectra?
I have over 12 planes and helis and I just want to sell off the old transmitters and keep the receivers in place.

I know that JR and Airtronics has a different shift modulation than Hitec or Futaba. I never played with the Spectra before.

The module works with any reciever. There is an option in each model setup to make it Negative or Positive shift.
I wish JR would come out with one of these modules. =(
