Bob Wilkinson -> Old Fox Fuel-Engine started with our glow battery (12/13/2006 11:37:56 PM)

I was recently given a quart can of Fox Dukes Mixture fuel. I was told that it was at least 10 years old and had never been opened. I have a Fox 40 ABC that I have been running for over a year and using Omega 10% with a little caster oil added. Engine runs fine on the Omega. Today, I decided to see if the Fox fuel was any good. I filled the tank, primed the engine and it started right up, but quit when the prime ran out. I opened the needle and put my finger over the air intake for another prime and the engine fired up WITHOUT THE GLOW PLUG BATTERY. I had to open the needle about 1/2 turn and the engine ran for the entire 10 min. flight. I refueled after letting the engine cool down and I primed it again and it started again WITHOUT THE GLOW PLUG BATTERY!! Does any one have an explanation for this?
