Thanks for the replies,
Are you going dual voltage? 6.0 RX and 4.8 retracts?
Is anyone running the 791 retracts on 6 Volts?
Thanks,
Steve L

I know I said I wouldn't open my mouth again until she flew, but I actually know the answer to this question!!! Survey says...NO!!! Went around with Horizon on this one since their ad lists the 791 with 6V specs. They evidently will cease to function at the most inopportune moment and cause you to utter profanity if ran at 6V. Danny Snider promised me he would get the listing changed. There is a lot of conversation a few pages back about this topic, including an excellent diagram on installing 6V for the Rx and 4.8V for the retracts. Can't remember who put it up (Rip, BankYank maybe...Take your credit guys) but bottom line is not to do it. I'm going back downstairs now and make sure that the batteries are up, because if the wind lays, I have an appointment with the flightline tomorrow.

I've been running them on 6V in my P-47 for almost a year now with no problems.

Steve,

Go dual voltage.

Horizon specifically recommends not to wire the 791's into a 6.0 volt system, in spite of the fact that the "JR web site" states a torque for both 4.8 and 6.0 volts.

I'm running my Rx and all other servos (HiTec 545s) on 6.0v, and the 791s have their own 4.8v power source. On the bench, everything operates nominally, though I'm still tweaking my flaps alignment and end-points.

Maiden's in 1-2 weeks, depending on weather, and the final break-in runs of the Saito 220...

Rein,

I posted the dual battery diagram back when, but I didn't dream it up. I believe I pulled it from a "BigPlumbs" (UK member) post in another thread.

I wired my dual voltage system up just as he recommended, and it worked perfectly first time!

Whoa! Maiden of your 'Stang as early as tomorrow? Be sure to post an update as soon thereafter as possible!

Good luck and good flying!

Bo

Capt,

And you're likely to get another year or more with no problems.

However, according to Horizon, the problem occurs when the gear doesn't reach it's endpoint for some reason (bent, obstruction, whatever).

Then, the servo will still continue trying to reach that endpoint with 6v of "ummmph" behind it and that's when it burns up.

With a 4.8v power source, it just keeps trying until the battery runs down, and this scenario is the real reason for using separate power sources for the Rx and the retracts: you can keep flying the plane (though you eventually may have to belly in)!

Bo

REINCARNATE,
You go big guy. Good luck on the maiden. I've done two maidens in the last 2 weeks, unfortunately not the Big Stang. It's in the box on hold. Maidened a Dave Patrick Ultammate with a Saito 180 I've been working on for two years. Flew awesome right out of the box. I would recommend this bipe to anyone wanting to get into the bipe biz. Awesome bird, does all the ticks and the big Saito talks the talk and walks the walk. Ok, the 2nd maiden was a little electric extra 260, also went well. Got the big KMP 30% extra on the bench now. Much easier build, not so much thinking. Gook luck my friend, can't wait to hear.........I'll get back on the stang soon, want to be ready for WARBIRDS OVER DENVER IN JUNE..........

DANG, I LOVE THIS HOBBY. CAPTAIN RON.

I ran into an interesting situation with my setup using JR 791 servos for retracts. At first I installed a Futaba 148DF 8ch receiver with a 6v pack. The 791's would not work, took them to a LHS and tested on a JR system, they worked fine. Came home and swapped the 148DF for a Futaba 127 7ch receiver with 6v pack and they work fine. Never did get a true answer as to why it does this but I intend on using a split 6v and 4.8 v on mine.

A question for the ones that are using a Saito 220, with mounting it said the mounting blindnuts may have to be moved. I got my NEW 220 today, (still grinning like a fox) and I did a quick setup to check for alignment of mounting bolt, it looks like the new holes will almost be into the old holes. Will this present any issues or problems?

REPOSTED:

Hi Guys

For anyone who wants to install the Saito 220 in the new Mustang , you do not have to remove the blind nuts.

All you do is slot the holes on the engine mount so that the mount can slide a bit and the 220 will fit in perfect.

Take a look.

Leave the holes the way they are. Go back to my post # 52.
You wil see in the pictures that I have slotted the engine mount holes, just enough so the 220 will fit like a glove.

That was my first thought but had to ask. Learned a long time back when in doubt ask someone that has been there, never to old or to prideful to ask for help
Thanks
