CRUD, they shipped a G26! The least they could have done is ship a 26GT and charge me for a G26!!!

Anyone use a G26 on the P-51????

Hey Rein,

That's great news about your maiden! Congratulations!!

When you deployed flaps on the 2nd landing, did she show any pitch changes? Did you p-mix flaps with elevator, and if so, how many degrees?

Let us know how the next ones go! And don't forget the pics...

Bo

GREEN with envy. Glad to hear that the maiden went well for you. I am waiting for a simple prop nut adapter for my Saito to put mine in the air, however after last weekend and my maiden of GP Christen Eagle, don't know if the heart can stand two maiden flights back to back.
Waiting for your second day flying and report.

Great job on the maiden flight. Now lets see some in flight pic's Once you get used to a full flap landing your gonna love it!!
The 26GT seems to be making a good alternative to glow. I still have not gotten to fly mine yet, BUT soon i hope. Were the rpm's you measured in flight or static? Your supposed to be able to measure the peak rpm's at that little LED but i dunno when i trued it,it read 1930 rpm's but the prop read 7200. Also maybe you already said but what muffler are you using?.

REINCARNATE,
Good job Mr. 51. You did a great job not only flying, but also relating the event. Loved reading it. I'm getting the itch to get mine out of the box and get going again. Can't wait to see some pics. Also, as one of the other guys asked, how did she handle and what where the characteristics when you brought down flaps and slowed her down, did she pitch up at all?
AGAIN, CONGRATS...........CAPTAIN RON.

DANG! LOVE THIS HOBBY........

Thanks all. It seems like we've all built this model together, and I appreciate your support!
Anyway...

BankYank, My rpm was measured static with a GloBee tach, double checked with another tach at the field. Can't afford telemetry! If the LED you are talking about is on the ignition, I can't see mine. I did ll my test runs mounted on the airframe, and my IG is mounted behind the firewall and under the tank (links 4 and 5 below). The other LED is only a battery voltage indicator.(unless I missed something) I do think I read that one the larger Evo's could be read from an LED on-board, but if the 26 can, I didn't know. Maybe you have an updated better IG? Anyway, I'd guess that I got another 3-400 rpm once prop unloaded in the air. Oh and I'm using an inverted Bisson wrap around. Minor firewall and cowl surgery.

Rip and Cap'n...As for the flaps, I'm using a JR9303 which gave me another plus on the flaps. Not only do I have the elevator and flaps mixed on flap deployment,(24% on mid, 37% on full. Not sure of degrees. I'll measure it for you if you want), I also have a 2 second delay in flap deployment programmed in. Not only does it look extremely cool as the flaps slowly extend to position, it also negates an immediate pitch change. I'll probably play with the mix settings as flights continue, but the elevator compensation buffered out a lot of the pitch change.

It's raining like mad here today, so therefore I had time to browse and read. Gonna use today to finish getting the hanger ready for spring. 3 new birds(the 51, a Matt Chapman Cap 580, and a Nitro AT-6 Texan almost complete) to maiden this spring, but I guarantee none will thrill me like the Mustang.

I'll post pics of the next flight, as long as my boy can find time to go with his old dad to the field!

Hi Everyone,

I am wondering to build a P-51 and I need some help:

1) Those who are using the EVO 26 GT, are you satisfied? Is it a good choice for those who like gas engines?
2) Does anyone tryed to use a EVO35? Does it fits weel? And about the weight, the has 50% more pounds than the 26.
3) About servos: Using the JR DS821 Digital Sport Hi-Torque is ok or need something better like a JR 8411?
4) I saw 2 different models in this post: Marie (with red cowl and spinner) and Frankie (with brown wings and yellow spinner), Is there any difference? Which one is better?
5) What is better for performance in the EVO 26: The Evolution tuned silence (pipe) or the muffler wraparound?
6) Is it true that I have to buy one standard and one reversed retract servo?
7) Is anyone using Li-Ion batteries with the GT2 ignition? are you using regulators or not? What are the impressions?
8) LAST ONE: Have anyone built an Giant Spitfire from World Models or does anyone know I nice post about it? And about the Giant P-51 from Top-Flite?

Thank you all

Henrique - Brazil

Slviper, thanks for the link. Sitting around tonight felling gloom and all that stuff, when I heard the Merlin fire up made perk up and started grinning like a possum

Have got the Saito 220 installed even used the stock muffler (not my first choice) and very pleased with not haveing to chop the cowling all to pieces to make it fit. I made opening for the heads with clearance around to reduce and rubbing and more airflow. Question or concern is about airflow thru the small opening and out the channel, will this be enough airflow to keep engine cool?

I have found a possible solution for those out there wishing to use a Dave Brown or Tru-Turn Spinner. I went to a place here in my town that does powder coating. It is the hardest and most durable solution out there and should stand up to a starter if you are using one (provided you try not to let it slip). We found that "safety Yellow" was an almost identical match. If your place has it in stock, they will most likely do it for $25. If they have to order the powder, you'll have to add that cost as well. Should have mine back in 2 weeks or so. I'll post a picture or two when it gets back.
