Grrrrr, few of those smileys in my last post were simply closing parentheticals! This one's mine:

The server chose to add more because it was confused...

Bo, nice job!! Looks great, didn't realize you are in Colorado until your last post. Lol I'm in Westminster and I agree, ready for Spring to get here. Where do you fly at? We fly at Chatfiled Resevior. One nice thing about the cold is there is only about a handful of people out their so you get in plenty of flying. Gets pretty crazy though when it warms up. Maybe tomorrow will be better, supposed to get up in the 50's I believe. WooHoo..

Shane

Shane,

Yep, up in Fort Collins. Same cra**y weather you're getting around Denver! Tomorrow is promising, though!

I'm a member of Rocky Mountain Modeleers. (http://www.modeleers.org/)

We have a 250' asphalt runway at an airfield about 3 miles north of Wellington, CO. However, I'll maiden my 'Stang (like I did my 60-size) at LoveAir's 600' asphalt runway, as a guest. Once I figure out what she'll do for glide slope and landing speed, under full flaps, on the longer runway, I'll fly her off my club's shorter runway.

As the "RC plane" flies, Chatfield Reservior is a LONG WAYS AWAY! I've never been down there to fly.

BTW, we're doing an RC Airshow/Invitational at the recently closed Fort Collins Downtown Airport (real runway!) on July 4th. Barring other personal obligations, you should drive up for it if you can.

Bo

Just checking in. Bo, I am starting to consider looking for an ME-109 in the same basic size range as your 1.50 Mustang to compliment yours...maybe a little dog fighting LOL Sure wish H9 would do an AXI plane(ME-109G6 is my vote) in the 1.50 size. Any variant of the ME-109 in this size range would be great though.

OK, as promised, here are some internal shots off my P-51.

Pic 1: My larger World Models 27 oz. fuel tank; to the right of that: C-Tronics on-board glow system battery/controller on tank support brace. BTW, it's status indicator light is visible in the top center of the instrument panel in my pilot/cockpit pictures posted earlier.

Pic 2: Servo bay has clear plastic cover attached with screws about 3/4 inch "above" the wing saddle. The aileron, flap and gear harnesses exit the wing in this area, attaching to their Rx counterparts, and I wanted to create a barrier to insure this mass of wiring didn't get snared in the moving servo arms. Using a clear panel to do this also allows me to visually check the servos and linkages between flights.

Pic 3: The bay behind the servo bay shows the backside of my access panel that holds the retract battery's, and Rx battery's, charging switches, plus the on-board glow charging port. Also visible are the 4 black 4-40 bolt heads securing "George", my pilot, and two of the four 8-32 t-nuts/bolts holding the dual battery tray to the plywood reinforced cockpit "floor".

Pic 4: A shot into the tail section showing the rearward placement I managed for the 4.8v retract, and 6.0v Rx, batteries. The heavier 6.0v battery is approximately centered on the back former. The cross-block (barely visible) epoxied on the back former (under the tray) engages with a battery tray mounted "hook" when the tray is slid into place so as to prevent flexing/vibration. This design eliminated both the need for cutting a battery access panel into the rear of the fuselage, or having to add any dead weight to the plane to balance the 220 in its nose.

Kahloq,

As you've undoubtedly already discovered, the main ARF manufacturers haven't exactly tripped over themselves bringing GS 109's, 190's and Zero's to the market. However, KMP has a great looking 109 in the 70+ inch range, and CMP offers an 80" Zero.

If you ever bring a "larger" 109 to our flying field, I can assure you that Sam (w/ his Top Flite P-51) and I (w/ my H9 P-51) will be more than happy to chase you around the skies!

Bo

She looks ready to take out some Zero's. The pilot seems perfect with a great look of ("I'M GONNA KICK A-- AND TAKE NAMES)! KOO DOUGHS TO THE PHOTOGRAPHER, MUST HAVE BEEN THE WIFE. Nice weather next week, Perfect for a maiden.

DANG! I LOVE THIS HOBBY, CAPTAIN RON.

Hmmmm....me thinks I can purvail against two P-51's if I can get a plane close in size. LOL
I do like yours a lot Bo....almost made me go to Hobbytown and have them order one for me(or Things with Wings) when i saw it in person, but, I dont wanna be a copycat either. I'd still prefer an ME-109

I have been eyeing the KMP one(73" ws), but, its not in the same size scale as your P-51. CMP does have the 80" zero, but, if I am going to put the money into this size plane, it has to be an ME-109.....one..I like them, and two, no one has ever brought an ME-109 to the field but me(FSK)....I like flying planes that not everyone else has. This is kinda of odd though, because the ME-109 is a hugely popular plane. I may have to look into a plan or kit build to get an 80" or so size, but I do not have the tools or jigs to do this....or the time really.
CMP does have an ME-109F on the drawing boards, but no clue as to when it will be released. It is a 140 size, so this means, using the specs for the CMP P-40, it will be similar in size to the KMP(73" with a 74" ws. However, CMP's 140 size P-51 only has a 71.5" ws
http://www.cmpairplane.com/warbird/BF109F%20140%20Size.html

Know of any places that offer kit builds that already have the wood laser-cut and such in the general 80" ws range? Skyshark has one, but its only 65". Im sure there has to be someone out there that offers plans plus the wood and cowls and such. ...heck even if the plane were larger then 80", I'd consider it.

Thanks, Capt. Ron!

LOL! Yeah, Lt. "George" has that "gonna be a Double Ace soon" look on his face, doesn't he? After all, he already has 8 kills marked on the side of his plane!

And, ROTFL with regards to my wife taking these pictures! If my signature hasn't already given it away, I try to fly WAY under the radar (Stealth Mode!) CONSTANTLY on anything to do with RC. To have her take pictures of my planes is to foolishly invite QUESTIONS about same.

Don't get me wrong: she loves that I'm into it, even brags about it with her friends, but the fact that an H9 1.50 P-51, ready to fuel up and fly, runs over $1200 is information I distribute under this roof on a "need to know" basis, only!

Bo

Check w/ Mace Gill at Airplane Works or Larry Katona at Precision Cut Kits. They'll cut you a kit from any set of plans you can find.
They'll probably be at Toledo this week, but they're generally easy to get in touch with and will b e glad to discuss w/ you whatever you need. Larry's cut two kits for me and they are great pieces of work.

It rather unlikely I could get to Toledo since I live on Colorado, I'll look for websites. Thx.
