VERICAL GRIMMACE,

Our Master Scale Classic is July, the 19th thru the 20th. WARBIRDS OVER PUEBLO IS THE 28TH,29TH AND 30TH OF AUGUST. Love to have as many of you as can come down. I know about 8 of us will be attending your big time show (WARBIRDS OVER THE ROCKIES) IN September. We had a ball last year and wouldn't miss it this year. At this point, I know RIP N BANK is planning on coming down for our warbird event. We too have plenty of room for RV'S. A 600 ft paved EAST AND WEST with a 400 ft diagonal makes crosswinds a little easier. We get quite a few pilots from Denver, love to have a boat load from up north to. Our web site will have directions to the field soon, it's being upgraded now and should be back up and running in a couple of weeks.

CALLING ALL FRANKIES TO PUEBLO THE 29TH AND 30TH OF AUGUST. I'll have a new Top Flite P-47 gaint scale with that good ole faithfull G-62 flying by then, I hope!!!! my Frankie will be there also. ANYBODY FOR A MUTANG GAGLE??? THATS RIGHT BABY! LETS ROCK AND ROLL!!

DANG! I LOVE THIS HOBBY.....................................................CAPTAIN RON.

I am wondering if you could direct me somewhere (website) that gives info on preparing for scale contests? I want to get my DVII ready and need some info on organizing the documentation. I think it would be fun to actually compete in RC scale.

kahloq,
That would be awesome if you could make it down. Bo's bringing his, Vertical Grimmace is bringing his and your bringing yours? WOW! The Frankies will fill the skies over Pueblo with some serious thunder. 4 Frankies , those 220 Saito's with the Keleo exhaust howling at WOT 4FT off the deck all the way down the runway!!!!!!!! CAN YA SEE IT? CAN YA FELL THE ADRENALINE PUMPING?

VERTICAL GRIMMACE,
I would go to the AMA web site for info on the rules and regs for the scale meets. I fly in the sportmans class, so we don't need documentation. The event is an AMA sanctioned event, so their web site should give you all the info you need. LOVE TO SEE YA THERE !!!! Directions to the field will be up on our web site soon. It's under construction now but will be up and running in a couple of weeks. www.skycoralrcclub.com

Make sure you follow your Frankie!!! With 4 in the sky all at once...things can happen!!! It is a bit wierd to fly with another plane that looks like yours...let alone 4!!!

I wish I could see this though...would be very cool!

Mine will be a bit different from the others, and should help somewhat in that regard.

On a few of my first 6 flights, I had the unexpected difficulty of actually SEEING any part of Frankie that wasn't the yellow nose (the green wings and the remainder of the fuselage DISAPPEARED more than once on me during the far ends of the outside circuit against a deep blue Colorado sky)! VERY disconcerting! More than once had to ask my spotter what the wing orientation was as I held the sticks motionless and fought down panic! Some combination of aging eyesight, polorized sunglasses, lighting, and dark blue sky, I think.

I've since added 2" wide yellow stripes to the top and bottom of the wing tips, and to both sides of the top of the rudder. It actually looks pretty neat, and since Frankie is, at best, a semi-scale, sport warbird, I care not for any departure from true scale, or squadron markings, this might represent.

However, something tells me it won't be the MOST different of the Frankie's present (the owner of which being known to this thread)!

Rip

As Rip mentioned, mine will not have the Frankie colors on it. I probably will have to put some form or stripe or contrast color markings though as it is difficult to see even this size plane at our field sometimes on the backside leg. We normally have very bright blue sky and the plane's wings can get washed out, especially a camo scheme of grey/green with bits of yellow(nose).

Anybody putting Ferocious Frankie on both sides. I see the full- scale plane has them on both sides. Looks cool.

Did not get the maiden in yesterday; just too strong of a cross-wind. But, it was good to get it out to the field. I hadn't run the engine in the plane yet. Come to find out, I mounted the tank upside down (vent line on the bottom, fill line on the top). Caused the fuel to run right out throught the muffler as fast as I was pumping it in. Quick fix, take the wing and cowl off, disconnect vent, flip tank over and it's off to the races. The 220 started right up and ran like a champ. This thing will pull stumps out. Probably won't take more than 1/3 throttle to get it off the ground. Can't wait. Here's a shot of "Frankie" sitting on our runway. I still need to order the exhaust shrouds. Looks a little plain up front, no??

Nick

What did you do for a pilot in Frankie, looks like H9 only has the unpainted pilots. I am not the best painter, hopefully someone has a good suggestion. By the way nice pics of everyones Frankie.

It is the H9 pilot hand painted. It's really not that hard. Go to the Aces of Iron web site. They have some great directions and color suggestions. The H9 pilot unpainted was less than $10 (I think). Still need to paint the spinner, too.

Mdishinger,

Here's another alternative.

Somewhere back in the first half of this thread I posted pics of my pilot, which is a Dragon Models P-40 pilot. Since I didn't do a full-depth cockpit kit, I had to perform a hip-and-leg-ectomy by cutting him in half around the navel, mounted the trunk to a base I could attach to the cockpit "floor" with 4-40 bolts, and then re-clothed him in his shirt and the upper half of his flight suit.

Even I don't want to scroll back thru all those pages so I can tell you where to look! Much easier just to attach the pic files again...

Rip
