Me too!

Due to baby/wife/business duties...I have not been able to finish my Frankie yet...Still, I am very thankful for these duties...and Frankie will be in the air soon enough.

I will feel better once the ground is a bit thawed also...just in case.

Very, very, anxious!
Thanks for posting your TX mix and settings Rip!

Tsyssa,

While your mileage (settings) may vary, I'm happy to share what works for me.

BTW, your priorities in life are right on; and when you DO get a chance to attend to the "duty" of taking a break for yourself, Frankie will treat you right, don't worry!

Rip

C.ops, I was going to ask if anyone had put in the Zenoah G38 in the p51 , but the pics from Diablokid answers my question, any info on that installation would be appreciated as I was going to use the G26, but was advised to go to a bigger engine, the G38 doesnt seem much bigger. The pics look great by the way. Going to Toledo Sat.

Hi,
I'm sorry I have to ask this, but I've read and reread all the pages and obviously missed it,but has anybody else had trouble with getting the horizontal stabaliser tight against the fuselage?
I've tried pushing the stab.against the fuse. and redrilling and tapping the hole in the aluminum tube and then pressing it the other way and drilling that side and tapping
But still I have play.
I don't need to be able to remove the tail,is there any reason I can't epoxy it in?
Thanks

Craig,

After I tapped in one of the screws into the aluminum tube, I marked the other side of the tube, thru the other stabilizer hole, with the stabilizers both pressed tightly against the fuselage (duh).

But, then, when I drilled and tapped the second mark, I did it about 1/32" further inward than the mark. It took a fair amount of pressure on each stabilizer, when reinserted, to get the screw to thread into this second hole. This resulted in almost no gap at all between the fuselage and the inside ends of the stabilizers. USE BLUE LOCTITE ON THE SCREWS!

As to your second question, I've never once felt the need to remove the stabilizers since installed (they don't interfere with storage or transportation), so I don't see a downside in epoxying them on except for the difficulty of later replacement if damaged.

Although I like Rip's suggestion, I simply epoxied them in place. If there is damage where one side or the other needs complete replacement, its not gonna matter since it'll be pretty badly destroyed...and probably a some of of the rest of the plane as well. So, simply using a file or something to get the epoxy residue off the alum. tube would be needed once the damaged part is pulled off. Sure, alot more work then undoing a screw, but, I dont have a tap screw.

Thanks for all your advise,I'm going to redrill and tap the tube and epoxy the stabiliser as well,as you guys said,I really don't wish to dismantle it for storage or transporting so it might as well be solid as I can get it to be
Cheers

I think I'm going to epoxy mine as well...if it crashes...I think I will have more to worry about than removing the elevator!!! LOL
I just dont trust a screw holding things together in the method they have. Its only the threading on that aluminum tube!
Normally you tap for length 1.5 times the OD of the thread....this is quite well below that.

If it was designed the way my Aeroworks yak 54 is...that is an excellent way to do it. Two screws under each stab going into the fuse with blind nuts. Very nice setup indeed. May even convert mine to something like that if it is possible.

Finally got the maiden in yesterday. Three flights with no mishaps. None all too pretty though. It wanted to climb hard; took 15 clicks of down elevator, but looking at it on the ground, it didn't really deflect the elevator too much. I might have had it a bit up at neutral to start. I think the balance is OK. It needs a little down to fly inverted, but not too much. Tried the flaps on the second landing, but didn't have enough speed up during touchdown. It put a bit of stress on the gear, but everything held up well. The last landing was the best; a bit of a cross wind blew me off the asphault runway onto the grass, but I kept the shiny side up. I leaned out the Saito 220 after the first flight. It's turning about 8700 with the 18x8 MAS. It felt like I could have gone leaner, but I'll wait until a few more flights. Not sure at what point it happened, but the weld on the Keleo exhaust broke between the short header pipe and the muffler. I know I heard of this happening before, but not sure if it was on this thread. Anyone have this prob? What did Kelvin do? I really don't want to be out of commission for 2-3 weeks. I'll call him tomorrow. Other than that, all else is well.

Nick

I believe Rip N Bank may have also had this issue. So, I guess I should look forward to having mine break too!! Wonderful.

Yep. Just like yours. Broke in the same spot, but I didn't notice a change in exhaust note. Maybe it was broken for all three flights??? Will call Kelvin in the morning.

Thanks,
Nick
