Status: offline 		Thanks for the tank info, but I'm using a straight carbon fiber rod from the throttle servo to the carb and it goes right through where the tank should be. I'm using a Sullivan (I think) mounted on its side so it doesn't interfere with the throttle rod. May need to rethink that. The six ounce of reserve is less than 3 minutes of normal flying, but if nursed, could probably handle several missed landing attempts before flame-out !!

While we're talking about throttle linkage, with the McDaniels on-board glow, I had it idling at 1,200 RPM yesterday. It sounded almost like a Harley: pattata, pattata, pattata.....

Status: offline 		Talk about a low idle patta, patta, patta sound.....club friend was bench running his saito 450 radial at our small field today and was getting 1400 rpm's on motor not even close to broken in. Man it sounded good both at idle and at full throttle.

Status: offline 		I really do like this on-board glow starter. How convenient can you get ? Ultra low reliable idles, even though I would never fly it with the idle set at 1200. I can reliably hand start it every time now, usually just by grabbing the spinner and flipping it backwards, or using a foot long piece of automotive heater hose to flip the prop backwards. I have not used the electric starter in my last two outings.

Status: offline 		Hi all, just bought this plane and i'm wondering about powerplants. As I see most are using a Saito 220 or the evo 26 or 35 gasser. I was wondering if anybody has used the First Place FPE 2.4 or the Cermark SPE 40cc. I'm pretty new to the hobby and i'm not even sure about the quality of these engines. Any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks

Beautiful day here in north Texas today. Got in flights 10-13 today. Started with the 18x10 MAS, then the 17x10 Bolly turned about 8600 on the ground, then the 20x8 MAS turning about 7400. Last flight was back to the 18x10. I did not notice a whole lot of speed difference between the props ??? But, I did go back to the 18x10. That one still feels the best. Leaned out it turned 8400, but I backed it off to 8200 for flying. I'm still getting my butt kicked, speed wise!! I don't like it. Good thing I didn't opt for the 180 !!

I have a 24 oz tank in it. The last flight was pretty much full throttle until landing 8 minutes later. I pumped 6 oz out of the tank, so I probably had 4 or 5 minutes of "slow" flying still in it which is a good cushion. I think it still needs a little more nose weight, so I'll move the retract battery forward to the fuel tank area. Inverted, it took very little down to fly level and on landing, it doesn't seem to settle in like I prefer. Weather should be good here tomorrow also, so more to follow, I hope.

Status: offline 		Well, I got the retract servo arms replaced today. I tell you what, that was a chore and half. It wasnt hard getting them out to change the arms, but it was getting them positioned just right and the control arm length. The holes in the metal servo arms are in different spots out as compared to the karbonite ones I had in there. Man, those karbonite ones just happen to have the holes just right that I didnt have to fiddle much. But these......Oh man, took me 2 1/2 hours just to get them working right and I still had to add washers to the inner most allen bolt locations to shim that side of gear flange up slightly. Otherwise, no position would work at all without some "binding" noise. At least its done and the washers will splay the wheels just ever so slightly more outwards. Not that it needs a wider stance, but heck another mm or two cant hurt.

Just picked up a RTF 1.50 size P-51 ..
I am needing to install my receiver and adjust the rates, then check all fasteners to ensure she is buttoned up...

THen...Off to maiden her!!!

ANy tips on throws etc...

BTW it has an EVO26 Gt and EVO 18x6 prop.. SInce we are 250 ft above sealevel should fly at a decent pace...
oh and the previous assembler of this model installed Robart pneumatics with OFFSET oleo struts..
Need to mount the gear doors...

Status: offline 		very nice Thomas. Im using a JR X9303 and i set the ailerons for 50% on low rates. Has decent, but not excessive deflection. We measured it at the field and it came awful close to the recommended throw. For the elevator, i had that at 50% as well, but Rip N Bank saw it and recommended increasing it to about 75%(by looking at the actual deflection). I dont normally fly my warbirds with a lot of elevator as I dont come in with a steep approach like Rip does, but.....Ill leave the elevator rate at the 75% for now..... but will also input a considerable amount of expo so I dont overcontrol the elevator.

Status: offline 		the Evo 26 is not underpowerd for the plane, it just won't give that explosve power as the 35.
I am probably going to put my evo 26GT2 in this bird unless something else comes along that is just as nice as this bird from Hangar 9.

Good to read all the great experiences from you all.

Myself, I am still building and with a busy life, I do hardly find time to get it finished!

Anyway, I am not happy at all with the mechanical retracts and decided to replace the whole carriage with a robart air retract set. I know we have been discussing it here with the outcome that there was not real plug & play set available YET.

So I was hoping there is a set available today and otherwise can somebody share a good experience with modelnumbers so I can check it out?
